1996 mercury force 15hp getting hot

There's a THERMOSTAT on the midsection behind that plastic thingie. Just two flat-head screws holding it on. Take it and the spring TF out. A 105 thermostat is nearly useless anyway, once you open the throttle that sucker better be open, too. Remember, Mercury's didn't have stats for decades - for all I know they still don't.

855676003That's the part # for the 2005 15hp. Mercury thermostat that viva says isn't in there.

They put the thermostat in there because it makes the motor run better at a certain temp.
They put it in there for a reason.

awaiting cylinder head torque (Mercury should get back to me)

225 in#
or 18#
I start at 12# then go to 15 then finish at 18

still no idea what 225in# or 18# is
I generally run in nm or in-lbs, can you clarify what the # is

225# is in lbs and 18# is ft lbs.

In metric about, 2,5 kp m or 23 Nm.

The 225 is in "inch pounds"
The # is "foot pounds"

had a hunt around on the net and found a few posts that said 130 inch pounds

this is a 9.9 of the same year and by the pic that is the exact head.
i torqued it to 130 inch pounds and gave it a run. Read 105-111dg fh at a high idle.
neighbour picked it up and launched and it ran well, has not hit wot yet but looks fixed.
Which head torque is correct is the next question, can anyone chip in confirm please, I can nip them up tighter quite easily

The 130 inch pounds is probably right.
What I posted was info for all the Forces I ever worked on.
Then Mercury took over and used their parts.
