I have a Mercruiser 5.7 1996 with an Alpha 1 Gen 2. Speedo doesn't work due to the cable behind the controls being disconnected. It may have been cut?

Can I simply reconnect the cable and is there a part to do that?

Currently its plugged with a screw, which when taken out means water flows out of the tube when in motion.

Thanks for any help provided.

Gee, the speedo should have a pipe nipple to accept the water tube. If not it is broken.

The cable isn't a cable its tubing. Might need some new tubing, but connect it to the fitting on transom, and see if it connects to the drive on the outside of the stern

It must be connected to the drive if water comes out under way when the plug is removed... There should be a hose barb on the back of the speedometer gauge.
