Steering stiff. Shifter Stiff

old Crownline. 202 Br 1999. I’m replacing engine from 305 to 383 Stroker. Steering stiff. Thinking since everything other than the cable is new, PUMP and RAM. replace the cable. Any required info on the cable? Shifter too. So what’s a real nice joy stick shifter that will last a long long time? Outdrive is new, so I’m going to remove the outdrive rip everything else apart that attaches to the outdrive. Any worries?

I'm new to all of this, but there are a couple vids on YouTube about refurbing the cables themselves. If you're trying to save a few bucks, might be worth the trouble of trying that first.

It involves forcing oil through the casing via compressed air. Seems to work wonders if the problem is just due to dirty, gunked-up cables.

Thanks, I read post about the shifter, it’s bad, cable is ok. The steering cable. Might try the compressed air with oil trick. What is best oil vs worst.
