Minn Kota 160em questions

Ok, now that I have researched myself to total exhaustion.

I have decided on a engine mount electric trolling motor versus a two stroke gas stinker.
I have also decided I should probably "go big or stay home" and buy a 160lb model.
Panther Brand seem like a bad idea, so the choice has narrowed down to Minn Kota.

Here is my question Do they make both a single motor RT160EM and a dual motor model, or are some of the online stores just posting the wrong picture?

As a side question, I have a 1988 Sea Ray 21' (about 4,200lbs fulling loaded with people, gas and gear) would a 80 or 101lb thrust be sufficeint?

Hey Bill,

Yea, I did try their website. The 160EM only comes in Saltwater and its a dual engine. Thought maybe somehow a single might have been an earlier year - so if I buy a "new" motor on-line, might be a leftover. Minn Kota's engine sizing is based upon boat length. However, based on all my browsing, it appears more appropriate to look at overall boat weight 1st and not length.


Having only a 30lb (from my last boat) it does move mine, but on Lake Eire in wind forget it. That said, I'm all ears if anyone has anything to offer.

This is a great site, so I'm sure I'll be using this plenty

Seller emailed me back and it is a single motor engine mount.

Tough to figure on this one
