I'm new to the boating community and I'm going to be looking at a trolling motor for my 16 foot alumicraft. I see that wally world has the Minn Kota Endura 50's for about 180 bux. But, I'm looking at a "new" used Minn Kota 65, 65lb thust that is 24v for $300 (is that a good price?).

My main question is, Is is worth it to do the 24V and what is the big advantage over the 12V?

Also will the endura 50lb thrust cruise me along good enough w/ two big boys in a 16 foot boat w/ a small deck in the front and 25HP Johnson in the back?

Thanks
Ted

Re: Trolling motor 12v or 24v, WHY?

Fifty pounds of thrust have always been enough for me on 15' and 17' Boston Whalers with up to 3 adults aboard. I got to use a single battery.

What is "cruising along good enough"? Do you plan to cruise on electric power?

I used electric for positioning the boat while casting to shorelines, rock bars and structure. The 50-55lb Minn Kotas would do that all day on one WalMart Marine Maxx dual purpose battery that also started my outboard.

I think that would be enough on your 16' tinny, but then again I try to avoid overkill on everything.
