I have a 1984 75Hp mercury outboard. When connecting the terminals from the long Winter's nap, I put them on the wrong sides. It popped and sparked a bit but then stopped. NOW I am having all sorts of bad stuff happening. I replaced the Rectifier, the Stator and Trigger, and I still get a monstrously laggy dog. 3/4 throttle used to take me 30-35 MPH, Now... 3/4 just bogs and stalls.
Lay it on me boys... I deserve it!

You're beatin' yourself up just fine - No help from us needed.

Check for spark on all cylinders to begin.

BTW, I have had an intermittent spark on #2 so I took off and replaced bad trigger. wht/blk stripe was broken off at trigger molding. I replaced Trigger AND Stator. Prolly didn't need to replace Stator, but wanted a clean start! I'll keep the old one as a spare.

NO SPARK on #3 & #4 but JUST PUT ON New Stator and Trigger!

I will go and test rectifier now.

Rectifier WAS BAD, but swapping it out with a known good Rectifier did NOT bring back spark on #3 or #4.
