Hello all,
New to the site. My brother gave me an old engine and now i am trying to find out what it is. I asked my friend and he said it looked close to a 1955 15 hp evinrude super fastwin. But when I look at pictures of that year or all 15 hp fastwin years it does not like the case i have. the color for one is not the blue color like most i have found. It is more a dark grey color. Also if you look at the case cover it has a chrome peice under where it would Evinrude which if it is an Evinrude i never found a piture with this peice on any pictures yet.. so any help would be great.. not really found any number either.

375583
is the number on the case

Other people say it is "You have what looks to be a mid 50's OMC built 12 / 15 HP motor.------------Perhaps an Elto / Gale / Buccaneer / Sea Bee"

Any help in idenifying this would be great!

thanks

Does the motor have a little plate with the model # and serial # on it? Those would be much more helpful

is it possible that number under the steering bracket is 376583. if so that bracket is off a 56 johnson 15hp model fd-10. there is one for sale on ebay with that number on the steering bracket. the part number 375583 is listed as vintage, line and is 4 dollars.

That casting number is common to several Evinrude, Johnson and Gale models.

This is 12hp Gale-built motor. Most likely a Sea Bee, going by the side applique. Date would be approx. 1957-58.

yes i see that now it fit many other models.

It certainly looks like a Gale 12 hp.I have a Montgomery ward version, the Sea King and it looks identical.Mine is a 1957 model.Have you checked to see if there is a welch plug on top of the motor? That should have the Model # on it.
