Hi there. I picked up a Sylvan 1980 18' Sportster IO in October and was hoping I could hang out in the StarCraft forum and get some advice on a bunch of work I will have to do?
The Sylvan forum is a bit slow. There hasn't been any new posts there since October.
I've already seen some great restoration threads here.

What do you guys think? I have pictures!

Hi Marc. I think a 1980 Sylvan is technically a Starcraft. lets see some pics.

I have a Lone Star in dry dock. It is in the restoration section. Lots of tinners look in the restoration section and are very helpful.

Of course I do hang around here too.:D

The Lone Star section sounds a lot like the Sylvan.

I'm not sure how it works, since technically it's the same exact boat with a different decal...but the resto forum will definitely treat you right.

Another Canadian in the forum would be great, and like they say a Sylvan is pretty much a StarCraft.

Are you planning to put Star Craft decals on the boat? ;)

Maybe I could put Sylvan on one side and StarCraft on the other?
Whenever I tell people about the boat I always have to say it's a Sylvan - just like a StarCraft. Then they go "oh, a StarCraft, good".

Maybe we could get GA to setup a sub-forum inside the SC forum:

Also a Starcraft

:D Put them all under the same awesome tin umbrella of Starcraft

Ok, Ok. Here's a few to calm you down. I'll have better ones in the spring.
I'm going to do the mechanicals in the spring and hopefully have time to tear out the floor as well.
She looks nicer in pictures than she does up close. It will be a long term project. But I will be using it every summer.
I did get a chance to do two 25 mile runs before it froze up here.

Yep! Welcome! :welcome:

they may have hung on to the side rubrail longer than StarCraft (1976)....unless that was a PO modification? :noidea:

they even have the same structural bandaids that StarCraft used...and around the same timeframe...

Notice the row of rivets right above the spray rail:

Real nice looking tin Marc, that is so close to an 18SS they must be 1st cousins. Looks like she got up and personal with a dock or some other hard object on the starboard bow.

Thanks, interesting about the side rubrail. It looks like a good thing though?

Do you mean these rivets? What structural issues did they resolve?

Thanks, yes, it looks likes it ran into something at a pretty good clip. When you say 18SS do you mean the StarCraft Supersport?
