I have the tool figured out on the lower portion where the plate keeps the bell crank at 90* but i was having a little trouble with the other part of the tool where it attaches to the top.

Where does the barrel part of the cable need to be?
How does the cable go in, would the nut portion of the cable go in the center slot of the tool?
Does that nut need to be removed that's on the cable?

my manual doesn't even show these tools.

After searching and searching I found a thread that shows me how this jig works exactly.

Re: OMC Cobra Shift Linkage Tool

What manual are you using? If it's not a genuine OMC manual maybe you should get one.

i was thinking it was a factory manual, can not find anything that says clymers or seloc. its just in rough shape and some of the pages are ripped out. thanks Bruce for the link was very helpful in explaining how to use the special tools correctly.
