Man the boat turned out awesome!!!!! I must have missed the part where you ended up with e-tecs but you got some sweet power on there. that boat above has worse motors for $50K.

nice job and congrats!!!

She looks unbelievable and fun to drive:D...nice work.

despite all of the naysayers out there that advised you to quit you've created a monster of a boat- well done

Re: HUGE PROJECT!! 30' Scarab Sport overhual

I just re-read all this as I'm waiting to leave work on a friday and go work on my 21 footer, and I'm going to say for the record "well done".

You hung with it and spent the cash to do it right, and now you have a great boat, which I hope you'll be out enjoying all summer.

You blew the budget, but so does everyone else. If anyone here says they did a complete rebuild on time and on budget, they're either lying or mistaken... it's the nature of boats to be expensive.

Make sure you set up a regular maintenance schedule for this beauty and keep good records in case you ever want to sell her.

Enjoy using her, and start shopping for your next project :)

Re: HUGE PROJECT!! 30' Scarab Sport overhual

so the reason i have been MIA on iboats is becuase john had a pretty busy summer, and well no offense, but i had a long winter of spending $ and putting in long COLD hours, and i just wanted to spend time on the boat and not on the computer. After all was said and done i put 78 hours on the motors this year. Not bad at all considering i live on about 5 mins from where everyone anchors and hangs out...... I did do some serious trips however.... i went from home to Put in Bay ohio!!! We shot accrost lake michigan in just under 55 mins! here are some photos of the trip....

Me and Marcus at the helm...Marcus driving, me navagating....(after all those hours he spent on her he did promise me he'd drive this thing...)

This is middle sister island NOT WEST SISTER as everyone gets mixed up, on most maps (not charts) this is does not exists, but heres a photo to prove it DOES! From home (grosse ile, mi) this is our half way marker to Put In Bay ohio, we call it the point of no return, here you are 100 percent surrounded by water with no land in view.

We also took the boat up to hasens island in Lake St. Clair. thats about a 42 mile trip up the detroit river ast detroit and then we spent the entire day running around Lake St. Clair bar hopping and sight seeing. We left that morning at 10 AM and arrived back at the dock at 8:15PM and the GPS read we went 125.2 miles in one day! unfortunity we didnt take any photos on this day trip.
NEEDLESS TO SAY........
I got married
I spent every weekend on the boat
I spent ALMOST every weekngiht that i could on the boat
We spent the night sleeping in the cuddy a total of 11 times
AND we made a few weekend trips to far destinations.

SO CUT ME SOME SLACK! I HAD A BUSY SUMMER lolol.....

I AM BACK AND AM GOING TO SPEND SOMETIME PUTTING THIS RESTORATION INTO THE "COMPLETED RESTORATIONS" FORUM! hope to hear from all of ou soon and catch up on your projects!

Re: HUGE PROJECT!! 30' Scarab Sport overhual

Thanks so much for the updates jserb. This was one we definitely didn't want to sink into the archives. So awesome that the boat turned out to be everything you had hoped (and probably more) and that you've gotten such great use out of it.
