Re: How fast is your Glastron?

Well took out the boat with a new Solas ss 4 blade 23p and ended up with 48mph and 4000 rpm :( Not as good as i hoped it would be. Guess it's back to the 23p alum until i get some direction in the prop forum.

Re: How fast is your Glastron?

I heard 4 blade props have less top end speed than 3 blade.

If you want more top end, get SS 23 or higher pitch.

Re: How fast is your Glastron?

Just tested the boat after a quick bottom waxing and removing the planing fins... Now 44mph with full gas driver only. :D

I have planing fins on mine as well, will i get more topend with them off? I tear right out of the water and plane real nice. That inline 6 has gobs of torque.

I took the advise of the guys at my boat store on removing the fins. I also have easier steering when the trim is adjusted now too. Lastly, my motor sounds more bad ***, not louder just cool for a smaller engine!

Re: How fast is your Glastron?

Priest Lake.jpgI have a 1981 Glastron SSV194. Closed bow, 25 gallon fuel tank in the bow, 305 w/ 228hp, 19P stainless Steel Vengence prop. Cuises at 30mpg / 3k RPM. Had it up to 50 once, but I don't like to push it that hard.

Previous boat was a 96 Glastron GS160 with a 1979 Mercury 140hp outboard. It would do about 50 as well at 6k RPM.

Most interesting think between the 2 is the fuel consumption. The CS160 had a 16 gallon tank and would take almost all of it on a trip from the bottom Priest Lake, ID to the upper lake and back, without exploring the upper lake. The SSV194 did that same trip on only 9 gallons. I amjust amazed and thrilled with the milage I am getting with this boat.

Re: How fast is your Glastron?

My GT-160 with the 125 HP Evinrude is the fastest around the Galveston area i know of. She has a 5-6 seconds hole shot to full speed of 54-55 mph. i get a lot of stares when i take her out to Clearlake,Texas and do some bar hopping! pics before 1971 GaLsstron GT160 003.jpg

62 mph is chuckin right along... pretty impressive for stock out of the box. Sounds like you might have an impeller going south. But impressive numbers :)

yep sounds like an impeller crashing X10

Bayoucat58:

Thaty really impressive, especially when you consider that your engine is crankshaft rated, so at the prop you are getting about 110 +/-. What RPM are you turning at WOT?

Re: How fast is your Glastron?

It pushes up close to six grand 57-6K. I have a bunch of props laying around it had an 17 on it when i ran it in the corner. This week i am going to run some different props i will post the results. My goal is to keep the awesome hole shot but ease out of the rpm's and hopefully keep my speed where i like it. I own a lot of boats this is one of my favorites as a rule i do not push them i like to cruise at about 70%-80% power.
i dig your SSV194 she looks nice!

Re: How fast is your Glastron?

Thanks, she rides VERY nice. Even over wakes and chop, she doesn't slap the water, as a friend said it's like riding a horse on a merry-go-round. Here is a pictrue or three from last weekend.

Re: How fast is your Glastron?

A couple of lazy days around the house, and came upon this thread.

In late June I had an opportunity to be at our cabin alone for a night. After dinner on a perfect June evening I took the boat out (SSV170/150HP OX66 Yamaha), and started playing around w/ the trim and throttle. I also had my Garmin in the boat, to a least try to verify speed. I was able to get my boat to 58MPH, and there was room to spare on the throttle. For whatever reason I didn't experience the typical chine walk.

78 CVX20 Sprint Carlson with a 73 Merc 1500 alum 19 p prop
46 mph GPS with 10 gal fuel and 2 adults in it.Not sure of the rpm as I haven't sorted the tach out yet.
Haven't really played with it yet,but I think I can get it over 50 mph with a little set-up and a different prop.

Re: How fast is your Glastron?

Hi all,

First post here...

I have a 97 GS205SF with the Volvo Penta 5.7 (2bbl carbureted) running a 21p stainless, Was hitting 62mph on gps by myself, not sure how much gas?

This is the fish n ski version, and that number was before I loaded it down with the trolling motor and two heavy batteries, fish finders, anchor, etc, etc.

Ive owned it for the last seven years and it still has less than 200 hours on it. I think the best it will do now that its loaded down with fishing stuff is 55mph

Re: How fast is your Glastron?

90stingray, Hey thanks man, We like to go to Cheney mostly, Last time I went to Eldorado... I ran it up on a sandbar out in the middle of the lake. We also go to Table Rock at least one week if not two.

And yeah, Im hoping the same thing about the snow, I think Cheney is something like 7 or 8 feet low so it can just keep on snowing as far as I care.

Re: How fast is your Glastron?

I have an 88 GX239 Ultra, I love the boat. I wish I had the money to do what I want. Anyway its an old boat but still runs like new. All stock Non-mag motor 7.4L. 23p 3 blade. It will squeeze 63mph GPS on glass. But it usually runs around 55-60 at 5500 rpm.
