Re: 81 Glastron SX-190 Transom and Engine- PICS Galore Update 11-8
UPDATE: another reman from City Motor Supply Dallas-- .030 over--flat top pistons, hardened push rods & rockers, race bearings, APR head bolts, mild flat tappet RV cam-same Edlebrock intake & qudrajet, same Blaster II ingition & exhaust .
The windage tray & oil pan were trashed so I orderd a nice windage tray from hot rod shop & original oil pan would not clear. Got a deal on what I thought was a 8qt pan but was 10qt. with extended oil pump pick up to a high volume oil pump.
Met up with Clockwatcher(Johnny) and drooled over his Futura at the local sand bar today-Great guy!-We and several other boats got caught up in a bad pop up storm and had a blast haulin' butt down the lake. One of our good buds shatterd his side windshield suffing a wave and his GF had glass imbedded in her leg. Mine is has a couple hours left to break in that cam so I ran 3000rpm with a couple blast to 4500rpm-rode like a dream-it was still pulling hard..another weekend and I'll change the 10qts of oil and zinc additives and see what she can do.
I'm still running the 31 year old MR-1 drive with a 19 pitch prop. Might try a 21". I have to be real careful on take offs out of the hole and want to install a drive shower to help keep the drive from melting. The original 305 Jay pulled out was maybe 200hp and his 350 was just under 300hp. The new motor makes a good bit above that. I hope the drive hangs on till next year. I know I'm pushing it.
-in April 2012 had a valve drop into cylinder while running at 3200rpm. -made hole bigger than my fist in the cyl wall-not re-sleeveable.
The boat was parked in the street in front of my house awhile back and my nieghbor backed into it. Tore up the ladder and added some scrapes & dings plus damaged trailer. It was repaired. I left the plug out a couple times and replaced the starter & blower.Ibacked under a tre inmy yard and had to replce the bimini. And for some reason had to replace the nylon bushing on the drivers seat after a week of ownership..it may have been over stressed LOL.
Jay did a great job rebuilding and has offerd plenty of support- but feel like may be disapointed him some. it is still a cool boat.
