    Looking for some boring tips

I have been machining a shaft all day, using a very old, very large lathe. I need to bore a 5/16" hole 12 3/4 inches deep into one end now, never had to bore one this small/long. Any tips while I let it cool? I have to bore this hole then heat treat where a roller bearing runs, then I can...

    Slime tire sealer.

Just wondering if anyone here runs Slime sealer in their motorcycle tires, specifically anyone using it in a streetbike? I use it in lots of tires on the farm, ATV's, and my dirtbikes, but haven't tried it in anything that goes over 40mph. I am wondering about the effects on balance.

Had an interesting experience this evening!!

I was riding my motorcycle home from a family dinner at my aunt's this evening, about 10pm. I had a deer jump out of the ditch in front of me. I was only going about 60mph. I pulled the clutch, eased into the brakes, and moved left to avoid the deer, but when I crossed the centerline the rear...

    Lack of info

I was just wandering why so many people don't put even a general location in their profile on this site. It helps to know where a person is from when they are asking many different questions, and I have to ask many times. This is a reputable site, and I have no fear giving the minimal info...

    4 cycle golf cart, reverse?

Today when I was working on my mom's golf cart, an old 2 cycle E-Z-GO, I started wondering how reverse works on the newer 4 cycle motor golf carts. On the 2 cycle motors, you just simply start the motor backward. It would have to be a very complicated cam and valve arrangment to run a 4 cycle...

Well today I finally got wheat harvest officially started here on the Guy Ranch. Been cutting samples waiting for it to dry down for the last 2 weeks. The sample my dad cut at 5 pm was finally dry enough. So when I got done working ground at 6:30, I got one of the semis and headed up to the...

    recirculation hoses misrouted

I've been chasing problems on a poorly mantained 1989 100XP Evinrude. Got the carb problems straitened out, but it stumbles around 2000rpms. It has stumbled with two diferent sets of carbs, both sets of carbs have been meticulously cleaned and rebuilt. We took the boat out this eve, it ran...

    weight of carb float

Does anyone know what the weight of a new carb float. BRP Part Number: 0383437. I'm trying to figure out a carb problem, running rich especially at idle, floats are set correctly. I'd like to know if my floats are soaked up and heavy with gas. There is a number faintly marked on top of the...

    Irratic idle, lean sneeze

I've finally torn into my 1989 100XP Evinrude, E100STLCEM, looking for why it doesn't idle right. #4 is running lean at idle, spits once in a while. I can cover the idle air bleed on #4 with my finger and the motor idles perfect. I've rebuilt both carbs, they had nothing wrong with them...

    Hull ID Numbers

Does anyone know of somewhere to get a HIN plate made. I just opened the registration renewal for my boat this morning and discovered an extra paper in with it. It basically stated that the HIN on my registration was invalid or not in proper format. I went to our local KDWP office to see...

Had to show up the swift water rescue guys today.

Today, with all the heavy rains, we had alot of flooded roads. I heard on the scanner where a guy was stranded on a bridge with water rising from both ends. This was happening just a mile from my house, so my wife and I went to see what was going on. I recognized the truck setting on the...

    Removing recirculation system

Hi, Is the recirculation system necessary on my 100XP? The older motors I work on don't have one. If I can I'd like to remove the hoses and checkvalves and plug off the ports. Is it possible to remove the recirculation valves and hose with no adverse effects or should I just leave it alone...

    Late model remote control

Hi, I was wondering if a late model BRP remote control will work with my 1989 evinrude XP 100 motor. Model number E100STLCEM. The controls are supposed to be only 6 months old, but the guy cut the wires off when he removed them. I think I have attached a picture of the controls I'm talking about.

    Lean sneeze at idle

Hi everyone, I'm working on a 1989 Evinrude 100 hp V4. It seems to run lean on one cylinder at idle. I have taken the carbs apart and checked to make sure the idle passages were clean. The carbs were rebuilt in 06, according to the previous owner, they were spotless inside. It seems to run...

A question on HP ratings on boats

Hi all, I was wondering about how the regulations on engine horse power apply to jet drive outboards. Can I use a 115/80 hp jet outboard on my boat that is rated for 85hp. Not that I'm thinking of doing this but it was a question I thought was worth asking. Any ideas on how that works.
