    Mid-RPM range vibration issues

I have an off-idle vibration issue, I can't recall the RPM, but it's just before I plane. It changes slightly in a hard turn and goes away once we hit around 15+ mph. I just had the engine out and re-installed it, then aligned it with an alignment tool 'till it was dead on. The vibration was...

Slight vibes - is it my skeg?

Can a skeg with a slight bend in it cause vibration at low speeds? Everything else has been rebuilt - driveshaft u-joints are excellent, engine is aligned. Prop is perfect. Skeg has a 5-10 degree bend to port. The vibration is minor. Passengers don't notice (I do, but I'm a nut).

I got a good one for ya...

1989 OMC Cobra 4.3 Cruising along at about 2900 rpm, just enough to stay planed out in 12 foot deep water with the kids and wife in the bow, stereo on but not too loud (runs on a separate battery hooked up to an isolator anyway). No lights on, blower running, engine temp was 160 or so, smooth...

Finished today. Check out the pix!

Replaced the transom, rear engine mounts, battery trays, rear sole. Last year I was taking on water at a frightening pace, infested with ants, chalky gelcoat, stains, scratches, rotten transom and rear floor. Today was the first test after renovation. Only ended up with a shift cable issue...

Are there any non-sucky previous owners?

I think I got rid of my last "customization" by the previous owner today. I look forward to not being on fire. Screwey, unsafe wiring, rigged shift linkage, primer bulbs on I/O engines, automotive parts, no sealant used when drilling holes, totally incorrect parts, inoperative safety...

How a 4.3 should start and run!

Good maintenance is totally worth it. After a year's worth of cleaning/rebuilding/resealing/tuning, I was awarded the following engine start yesterday: Link to Video

    Trim pump screams and complains

1989 OMC Cobra 4.3. My trim pump now screams and complains when trimming down. Up is much better. I just rebuilt both trim rams, and I understand that introduces air into the system, but I can't tell any difference after running them up and down 4 or 5 times. I've refilled the system...

HOWTO: Rebuilding Trim and Tilt Cylinders

Since I had everything else off for rebuilding, I decided to rebuild my trim/tilt cylinders as well. They tended to leak down when they were hot, so I figured they needed new seals. The kit cost $25, one for each cylinder. I ordered them from my local Bombardier/OMC dealer. The first step...

    Trailer brake parts - where?

I have an '89 Shoreland'r roller trailer with surge brakes. The wheel cylinders are leaking, the brake fluid container cap leaks, so I need those parts and brake shoes. Where can I get these parts? Is there a place online?

    Rub rail question

Is the rub rail frame supposed to have a bead of marine caulking/sealant around the bottom, sealing it to the hull? This is related to my fiberglass runabout. It appears to have had one at one time, maybe...

OMC Cobra shift cable adjustment question

Those of you who've adjusted the transom shift cable on an OMC Cobra before: Without the "Special OMC Tool" is the 7&5/8" measurement indicated from the shift cable eye to the end of the crimp correct? Also, I don't have a retaining nut on the threaded end of the cable (on the drive side of...

    Rebuilding trim/lift cylinders

(OMC Cobra drive) My trim cylinders work great when it's cool out but once things hit 80+ they leak down, which drives me nuts. I went through the manual and it doesn't seem too terrible to rebuild them. I have the housing off the transom, so this is no big deal as far as removing them. What...

Painted my bilge! Primekote is great stuff. Pictures!

I used a quart of epoxy PrimeKote from Interlux tonight. Had to compliment the product, it worked great, and I'm totally pumped to be this far. For those of you just getting started, keep going, getting things painted is a blast. Check out the bilge after two coats (before picture included...

    Best bilge pumps?

Which bilge pump(s) have you used? Which worked better, worse? Did you use an integrated switch or a separate one? I'm about to re-install my engine and am trying to decide between the Rule RM1100 or the 27D. Both claim 1100gph, the RM1100 has an integrated switch. What's your experience?

    Thinning Bilgekote/Primekote

Guys - what can I use to thin Bilgekote & Primekote? I picked up both and forgot the primer, and I'd like to apply them this weekend. Shipping takes longer than that. Can I use something else? Any recommendations?
