    15 hp kicker big enough?

I have a 20' aluminum hull boat that I'm toying with the idea of putting a kicker motor on. Will 15hp be suitable for this? My main purpose is as a backup in case the larger motor fails.

80 lbs. of thrust sufficient for a 20' aluminum boat?

Toying with the idea of buying a trolling motor for my 20' aluminum boat. Will that be enough power for use in a tidal river?

Using an engine hoist to remove an outboard?

I know I have seen it discussed this here, but a search turned up no results. Is it true you can use an engine hoist (cherry picker) to remove an outboard? I have to remove my 115hp Merc outboard to replace the transom and don't want to try to rig something between two trees and use a comealong...

Suggestions on non wood product for transom replacement?

I'm going to need to redo my transom in my aluminum boat. It's a 24' Peterborough. I was thinking about pvc board that I found online available in sheets. I also did an iboats search and came up with coosa composite.Does anyone have any experience with either one of these or other suggestions...

    Please help identify tach wire.

I have a Mercury 115hp outboard on my boat. I replaced the tach and wired it exactly as it was but the new one doesn't work. ( The original one I replaced didn't work either.) I used the same wires, but maybe someone replaced it once and didn't use the correct one. Here's a pic: I currently...

Recommend an electric anchor winch to me!

Thinking about asking santa for an electric anchor winch for CHristmas. Is Minn Kota the "go to" brand, or are there better options out there? I'm kind of skeptical of a nylon gear for something like that.

OK to reuse a Morse rack and pinion steering unit?

DO you think it would be ok to reuse the rack unit itself and replace the cable on a Morse R&P steering unit that was originally on a boat that had a 50 hp outboard? I want to put it on my "new" boat that has a 115hp outboard.

Why won't my trailer ground??? PROBLEM SOLVED!!! PIC INCLUDED!!

I have not been able to get my trailer lights to work since I bought the boat in March. I've replaced everything from the harness to the LED lights. At first I thought it was my truck because I checked the factory plug and it would only wok intermittingly. Well, two weeks ago I replaced my 2003...

Trying to remove the dash on my boat to replace it and I can't get the steering cable to pop out of the drum. I removed the clevis pin, but it still won't budge!! Any tips?

Recommend a good external battery charger!

I'm in need of a good external battery charger. I know that Wal-Mart carries Schuemachers, but I've heard that some people have had trouble with them I prefer to charge my batteries outside of the boat because I keep it in a slip for striper season, and don't want someone walking off with $150...

    Transducer creates a rooster tail!

I have a Humminbird Model 565 mounted on my 20' aluminum hulled boat. At speed the transducer kicks off a five foot high rooster tail. Is this a factor of the transducer simply not being low enough in the water?

Need help locating plug wires for a 1995 I4 115hp Mercury outboard

I need to replace one of the wires dut to the fact is has a huge rip in the plug-end boot. I ordered a new 9" wire from iboats and as soon as I opened the box I could tell that the wire was way too short. The actual wire between the boots is only about 7" yet the number (18-5227) comes up on...

A few questions about water pump replacement in a 1995 Merc 4cyl. 115hp outboard.

I was reading over the manual and some questions popped up. First, should I really use Loctite red on the bolts threads? Secondly, is it ok to coat the specified areas with oil instead of grease, and lastly in the package with the new pump assembly there are two pick up tubes provided. Do I just...

Changing the waterpump in a 1995 Merc 115 outboard=a difficult job??

I fired up my motor for the first time since I bought the boat and after letting it run for 15 minutes with no water coming out I figured the impeller must be shot. (JUST KIDDING!!! I only ran it for about two minutes total before shutting it down.) Anyway, I'm pretty sure the correct part...

    Spark Plug Question...

Can someone please tell me the difference between these two part numbers for ngk sparkplugs? BPH-N-10 AND BPZ8H-N-10. Both of these plugs are listed in my manual for my 115hp outboard Mercury, but the price difference is between $4 and $8 per plug!

DO I need a tach wiring harness?

I am currently looking to replace the tach in my boat that presently has a 115hp Mercury outboard. Since there is already a tach in place, I don't need the wiring harness, correct?

    Does this prop seem right?

I just bought a 22.5' aluminum hull Peterborough and it has a Mercury Tracker Pro Series 115hp outboard on it. The prop on it read 13 1/4 x 17. Does this prop make sense for this boat? I would have thought the thing should be bigger.

Dumb question about my 1995 Mercury Tracker Pro Series 115hp outboard....

These motors ARE two strokes, right? I know they have oil injection but I wasn't sure if that was for the combustion or lubrication. Plus, I want to make sure I order the right Clymer manual for it.

Picked up this "little" gem on Monday...

Monday I went to look at a boat that I've had my eyes on for a couple of years now. It's a 22.5' Peterborough with a 115hp Mercury Tracker Pro Series outboard on the back. It really doesn't need much work at all- maybe a floor replacement which should be pretty easy on a boat that is this wide...
