200 hp 90 degree powerhead, FITCH midsection

I have an aqua sport bow rider with a 25 inch transom. I bought a 200 hp Johnson 90° motor (J200VLSIF) with a 20 inch leg on it, which I want to mount on my 25 inch transom. I’m hoping to pick up a 25 inch midsection and outdrive to put on the 200 horse Johnson. I found a guy who is selling at...

    Looking at a 2000 Johnson 200 Hp

I’m abouta buy a 200 Hp Johnson (2000 year). Seller sent a video of it running on a hose. I will do a compression check before we pull the motor. Does this sound right to you guys? Seems to be surging a little bit at idle. But I don’t even really know what they’re supposed to sound like.

J150EXECD shift cable vs throttle cable

I replaced my throttle cable on my 1998 150 HP 60°. I bought two Teleflex Extreme CC20523 cables thinking I would replace both the throttle and the shift cable. The throttle cable matched the old cable perfectly. But the old shift cable end doesn’t line up with the new one. Is there...

J150EXECD Looks like I need a new float?

I am replacing the bowls and gaskets, etc. on my Johnson 150 looper, 60°. I just noticed some cracks on the last carburetor float. Guess I have to replace that?🫤 The answer probably seems obvious, but I thought maybe I got lucky and these are filled with some kind of insert that isn’t hurt if...

J150EXECD No spark w/ regulator connected

So I got a Johnson 150 2-stroke. (Serial J150EXECD). It doesn’t produce spark unless you disconnect the two wire connector (purple and gray wires) going into the rectifier/regulator. What’s the fix for that? I think I remember reading somewhere that that means the regulator has lost its ground.

    Cooling water output J150EXECD

Just got this running after replacing head O rings and rebuilding transom. Telltale output looks good, but shouldn’t there be spray also coming out of the vents on either side of the telltale (aka “pisser”)?J150EXECD

    Transom gap?

So I am mounting a 1996 Johnson 150 onto a 22 foot aqua sport dual console., after having pulled it off and rebuild the transom. It has a stainless steel bracket on top of the transom, which causes a small gap of about an eighth of an inch at the top. I haven’t drilled the holes and mounted...

    Axle placement, Aquasport 222

I read the sticky on weight distribution and I have seen the video. I have a new-to-me Boat that I am putting onto a new-to-me trailer. The boat is a 1987 Aquasport Sandpiper, dual console, 22 feet 2 inches (hey every inch counts). It has a 1996 Johnson 150 hp. I have the boat on stands...

    Trim lock pin? 125 Force

So my 1987 Force is running pretty good, but the trim unit is a little tired. It moves the motor up and down okay, but it won’t hold the trim underway. The pressure from the motor under load forces the trim cylinder piston down to the fully retracted position pretty quickly and the bow rides a...

    Tongue repair

I have a 22 foot aqua sport bow rider. I bought a trailer from a guy who had a 22 foot aqua sport center console. The tongue is unusually long, and has a very poorly done patch welded on it that will have to be cut out and repaired. I wouldn’t mind it if the tongue were a little shorter, but the...

    Tach connections Faria

I have a tachometer manufactured by Faria, and it has the usual battery, ground and signal connections. But it also has two other connections one marked “sync starboard” and one marked “sync port”. Does anybody know what that is all about? it was attached to a Johnson 150, J150EXECD.

    Next victim 1998, Evinrude 150, Head O rings,J150EXECD

Got the head off one side of my 98 Evinrude 150 (J150EXECD). Had good compression on all but #1 and #3. Looks like a problem with the O rings in the head, but those water passages don’t look so good, either. They’re easy to clear, though. Not clogged solid.

175hp cylinder walls and absurd compression results

Guys with more experience than me tell the compression readings I’ve been getting can’t be right: 60 psi on two cylinders, with the others showing 60 psi while cranking, but dropping to zero when I stop cranking. Word is that’s a bad gauge or I’m not using it right. But I got the same results...

    Compression drop 1982 Evinrude 175

So I bought an Evinrude E175TRXCNB 175 hp last year and ran a quick compression test. All six cylinders showed 100-110 psi. I fired it up briefly on a stand. it sat in the garage close to a year, then I moved it to the backyard to start getting it ready to mount on my project boat. It ran...

No gasket for cylinder head cover, Force 125?

I'm putting a head gasket on a 1987 Force 125, and I took off the head gasket cover while cleaning it up and replacing the thermostat and overheat sender. When I look at diagrams online, there is no gasket between the cylinder head cover and the cylinder head, even though those two components...

Add water temp sensor to Force 125?

The plug at the top of the head on my Force 125 is 1/8 in NPT. Anyone ever used something like this (maybe with a short nipple) to add a temp sensor?

How do you do a leak-down test?

I’m looking for a link or a sticky on how to do a leak-down test on a late 1980s Force 125, and how to use that info to diagnose a compression problem .

    Slightly over powered?

I have a 125 horse power force on a mid 1980s Bayliner center console. I replaced the deck and added some reinforcement to the stringers a few years ago. It looks like I have a bad cylinder on my 125 horse outboard. I have 150 horse force outboard in the garage. The boat is rated at maximum...

    Stator alignment?

So I put a new trigger and stator on my 125 horse 1988 Force outboard. The stator came from CDI, and the trigger came from standard magneto. I think I must have installed one or the other wrong, because I can’t get the timing sufficiently advanced, even with the adjustment maximized. The...

1982 Evinrude 175, inoperative power trim pump

I have a 1982 Evinrude 175 on the stands after buying it off Facebook marketplace. I got it fired up, but can't get the power trim to work. The pump has three wires: blue, green, and black. (Previous owner cut them when he removed the outboard from the old boat.) As I understand it, blue is...
