    2011 4.3 not starting.

Well after installing a new cap & rotor the engine fired right off. While I was working on it I got the oil & filter changed as well as the fuel filter. Blew out the flame arrestor. Will have to get to the out drive another day. There is what appears to be a vacuum port on the distributor cap...

    2011 4.3 not starting.

I think I will put that on my list of things to do over the winter. Right now I am just slammed with a full time job, part time job, & about every other weekend booked with camping. The guy before me had the boat serviced & winterized every season so hopefully this was part of his shops service.

    2011 4.3 not starting.

I didn't have everything together to be able to service it before our first use. But yes I service it once a year. Oil, filter, fuel filter, & change out gear oil in out drive. Anything I am missing? I realize I probably don't need to change out the gear oil annually but I don't know for sure if...

    2011 4.3 not starting.

Before we took off for our first camping/boating trip of the season, I installed the battery back into the boat & started it up. Second crank it fired up. Get to the boat dock it fires up again. It runs a little rough idling through the no wake zone ( this has been common for this boat until it...

    4.3 Coughs

Before anyone asks yes I did test it for COVID-19 & it tested negative! LOL I have a 2011 Crownline 18SS with the 4.3 carbureted engine & MerCruiser outdrive. This is something that just started this past weekend. When I throw the throttle open fast it wants to cough a little bit. Does it more...

    90's Master Craft

If well taken care of, are the mid 90's Master Craft's good boats? We are looking for a bow rider or ski boat for the family to pull a tube around. Bow riders in the 10-15k range are selling before we can even get a chance to see them. There has been several Master Craft's that look great & have...

    Power for wakeboarding/tubing

Looking at buying a 18-20' boat. Most of the time we would have 4-5 passengers & would like to pull a tube. Would the 3.0 be under powered for this? I was thinking the 4.3 would be the minimum & 5.0 or 5.7 preferred.

    4.3 MerCruiser Outdrive Question

Looking at buying a 2003 Tahoe with the 4.3L Mercruiser. We had him run the boat with the muffs on & when he it put it in gear (forward or reverse) it would make a clicking almost grinding sound for a second. I asked & he stated that it has always done that. I don't know a great deal about boats...

    Keep Blowing Fuses

Have an old 78' Mark Twain OMC with the 351w. Orange wire going to the ignition has a inline 20a fuse that has blown before. It did it again so I put another fuse in it & it blew right away. I am sure there is a grocery list of things it could be.

    Tilt Motor

When I try to lower the outdrive I just hear a click. Sounds like the solenoid is engaging but motor is not running. One shop owner told me on this boat (1977 Mark Twain OMC w/351w) the fuel tank has to be removed to get to the back of the engine where the tilt motor is at. When I looked at my...

    Won't start!?!

This boat is going to kill me yet! 1977 Mark Twain OMC w/351W Just got done installing the fuel pump which was expected to be bad. Go to try to start it up & nothing! Did the obvious first, checked battery, cable connections, all seems fine. Just for giggles I throw a jump pack on it still...

    No Fuel Getting to Carburator

Just got my carburetor back & installed but now I am not getting any fuel to it. When I was bumping the engine over with no sparkplugs I was getting all kinds of fuel coming out. Actually had to stuff a 3/8" extension in the hose to keep it from going all over the place. Unscrewed the fuel...

    Water in intake

Carb was acting up so I took it to a guy here in town. Left the boat at the house while we went on vacation. According to my daughter we got a nasty storm the night before we came home. I must have not secured the cover well enough cause half of it was pulled off the boat. Engine compartment was...

    Lost Forward

Took the boat out one last time to try & run most of the fuel out of it. Was cruising along at about 3,000 rpm when it revved up like I lost the prop. I immediately thought this is what happened & pulled the throttle back. Put it in gear again & sure enough nothing. Put it in reverse for giggles...

    OMC Gearcase Questions

Boat title says it is a 1978 Mark Twain. On the gearcase it just says OMC Sterndrive (no 400 or 800) with a 235hp on a sticker below that. According to the Clymer's Shop Manual that I have, the 235hp set up was for 1977 models. Tag on the gearcase says Model# 983489 - Serial# J351978. So does...

    Coil

I have noticed while adjusting on my carb that the coil is very hot. The ignition has been converted to electronic ign. 1. Is the coil supposed to be hot? 2. Is the coil output voltage for points & electronic the same? This thing looks old... like maybe the original which by the way is a 1977...

    Adjusting my Holley 4160

This old 1977 351W does not have vacuum ports to do this the way most do it. I say old but it is a freshly reman engine & the carb has been re-built as well. I have started with the idle mixture screws 1 1/2 turns out each. I have read one article that states turn one screw in until it starts...
