Nissan 18E (2 stroke) Carb settings?

Started my 18E after about a year and a half of sitting, and it would not idle down. Took the carb off and found some gunk in the bottom of the bowl. Must of stored it with gas still in the carb! Stupid mistake. I did have a carb rebuild kit that I hadn't used. :) Dis-assembled and...

    Shaft Seals Care and Maint

I have seen it posted in a number of threads: - Never run trolling motor out of the water. It will destroy shaft seals. - Use STP Stop Leak (or other) to recondition the seals. Until recently, never seen this info posted on iBoats or other places. At 1st, didn't give it much attention...

A Test Tach for Small Outboards

Using a test tach for setting idle speed and verifing wot rpm range is within spec is essential for any boat/motor. On small outboards it can be a pain buying or setting up. While some generic tachs can work with multiple motors, some like older Nissans/Tohatsus, can be finicky, and only like...

Calculated Prop Slip on Jon Boats - What is a reasonable number?

I picked up a new project boat a little while ago. It is a DMI 1648 mod-vee jon boat (welded seams, but rivited supports), with a '98 25HP Merc 2 stroke. With the merc prop (13P), I am getting 5600 rpms (wot rpm range 5-6K) with a gps speed of 26mph. This is two adults plus some fishing gear...

Root Beer in Water Seperating Filter

Was doing my pre-season prep and maintenance, and on inspection of the water seperating filter, found some dark, root beer colored liquid, that quickly sank to the bottom of the glass. I'd say about 1/8 of the total liquid from the filter. I did change my winter prep procedure. Instead of...

    Missing Thread?

This AM I responded to a thread where a HB owner (587?) was wondering how to have two stations and one transducer. I went back to check, but it appears to have completly disappeared. Bit Bucket? or something else happen?

Nissan 40C CDI Pack Resistance Readings

I have an 80's Nissan 40C 2cyl 2 stroke. The coil/cdi pack has a Y-385 7C part marking, but believe it is Nissan #3406062601M. I did some resistance readings but can not find my manual (left at camp?). The secondary side has 2.7K on one plug and 2.6K on the other. The primary black and blue...

End of Another Season - 4 hole spacer comments

The over-night temps keep getting colder in the Adirondaks. I will be pulling the I/O boat out for the season, this coming weekend. :( It has been a good season with the boat running fine. I made some significant changes during spring commisioning which included: - New T5 ICM module...

Lake Recommendations for VT or NH

Looking to stay on a small to mid-size lake in NH or VT. I'd prefer something toward the lower part of the states, up to the middle. Decent smallmouth fishing required. I can bring a boat, but for the 3-4 days, it would be nice to have a rental option. The wife will be with me, so it can not be...

    Gone Forever!

I just noticed the link to all the Merc Service Manuals has been removed. :( While I have any I need, it was nice to look-up other engine/drive info to help others out.

Another Error in DM's Book - T4 Module will not plug in to T5

Received a T4 module today, and quickly noticed that the connector is different. The T4 is wider and has less pins than the T5. Not going to work. From Page 189, of SBC Marine Performance: "To convert a T5 ignition over to T4 ignition, simply remove the T5 modules mounted externally on the...

    Diagnostic Path for Engine Overtemp?

'96.5 Merc 5.7L, Alpha 1 Gen II I thought I remembered seeing one, but a scan through the "Adults Only" and both the engine and drive service manuals, did not find it. I remember something about attaching clear hose, to look for air bubbles, etc. Maybe it was just info buried in a thread...

    Removing Power Steering Pump Pulley

'96.5 Merc 5.7L Alpha. I am trying to remove the power steering pump pulley from the pump. The existing one is plastic and there was a service bulletin that changed it to metal. The new pulley is larger and comes with a larger Serpentine belt. There is a 3/8" hex key slot in the shaft...

New York State Boat Registration Surcharge

I received two renewal registrations in the mail today. For some reason all of my boats are on the same three year cycle. It looks like this went into effect last year and the surcharge is for "boating safety". Does anyone know how that money is being spent? boater safety classes, patrols...

    Navionics Rebate Warning

Please be aware that Navionics has a very strict interpretation for getting the $50 rebate on the Hotmaps 2009 chips. After a couple of emails with Navionics and providing a copy of my online receipt from Cabela's, they said it would not be honored. My receipt clearly showed the full MSRP...

HB adds Down-Imaging to SI Units

See press release: http://www.humminbird.com/company/media/press_release.aspx?id=1278 Looks like a little competition is good thing for SI HB owners. I can look forward to a new S/W load in the spring. PS: Except the 797C2 SI, which aparently does not have enough memory for upgrade.
