    Rapala Fish Hook Extractor

A previous post by Tom 2697 mentioned a "Repala Fish Hook Extractor" that can be found at BoatersWorld.com, item 479530503. I checked it out and was wondering if anybody else uses this contraption. It looks like a big tool to me. Too big for smaller catfish, bass, etc. Anyone have info on...

OK, so I'm not much of a fisherman, how do you pick-up fish???

Hi!<br />Before you guys give me a hard time, when I say "pick-up", I don't mean taking them out on a date! Anyway, I've seen many a fishing show on TV that shows fish being picked up by the gills. Personally, I've never had the nerve to stick my fingers inside the gills of a fish, but it sure...

How are boats built, as far as bilge is concerned?

OK, maybe a stupid, basic question, but how is a boat actually designed as far as the bilge area is concerned? It seems to me that my 19' bowrider has a bilge area that's sealed off from the rest of the boat and is basically just a place to collect water that enters the boat from the top...

Was plywood a good choice for floor repair???

I bought an older 1978 Arrowglas 19' Bowrider. The previous owner said the original floor had a soft spot so he covered the entire floor with 3/4" pressure treated plywood and installed carpet. It's holding up well, but my main concern is weight. I'm tempted to rip the floor up and use an...

I learned the hard way...don't back down ramp with drivers door open!!!

What a dumb-a** I am! While backing my boat down a ramp I had my drivers side door open about a foot. Don't know why, since I was looking over my right shoulder. Anyway, crunch...smashed the edge of the door into a pier support. $1700+ worth of damage (needs door & fender). Time to join...

At what point is boat considered "on plane"?

This question is so basic I'm ashamed to ask, but when is a boat considered to be "up on plane"? I run a 19' bow rider with a 115 Johnson. Even at WOT the boat appears to cut through the waves without the front of the boat raising out of the water much. Bottom line...how do you determine what...

How practical is a "starter rope" for a 115 HP Johnson?

According to my parts manual, my 1974, 115 HP Johnson O/B has a "starter rope" available for pull starting. I didn't get the rope with my engine and was wondering if it's something I should carry on the boat in case of emergency (dead battery, failed electric starter, etc.). I guess I'm...

There's so many posts on WOT RPM's, but what if....

OK, I've read a gazillion posts concerning WOT RPM's. I understand the importance of not reaching or going past the recommended RPM at WOT. But what if the engine is rarely operated at WOT? What if 1/2 or 3/4 throttle is sufficient for what you want the boat to do? Is it recommended to "open...

A new power pack failed after 10 minutes???

1974 115HP Johnson. This boat's killing me! 2 weeks ago engine died. Replaced power pack, all 4 ignition coils, and ignition switch. Engine ran great last night except I lost my forward gear due to shift linkage falling apart. Fixed the linkage, went out for a run today. Engine ran...

    How is throttle linkage installed?

1974, 115HP Johnson. No forward gear, just reverse. Found the pivot bolt on the linkage that attaches to the engine lever and the shift rod backed out. This caused the linkage to separate from the shift rod. Thought I had the problem beat when I hooked the shift rod back up to the linkage...

    What speed should I expect????????

I know speed doesn't necessarily indicate proper performance of your boat/motor combo, but generally, what speed should I expect to get in a 19' fiberglass bow rider with a 115 hp johnson O/B? I'm currently doing about 27MPH at 4900 RPM. That's with 1 adult, 2 children and basic equipment.

    Are power packs repairable?

I'm curious to know if anyone heard of power packs being repaired. I suspect that since they're solid state and sealed with potting compound, that they're strickly disposable.

Figure I did something wrong since I now have funny shift problem...

1974, 115 HP Johnson. I replaced the ignition switch, which works fine. It was the first time I took my Powershift II control assy apart. The only screw I took out that I didn't need to was the Warm up link set screw in the front of the unit. Anyway, I got the control back together with no...

Any tricks or advice on assembly of ignition coils?

I bought new ignition coils for my 1974 115HP Johnson. The coils come disassembled (kit includes coil, spark plug boot, spring that clips onto end of spark plug, tubing). Any secrets on how to assemble these? It seems fairly straight forward, but thought there might be some wizards out there...

    QUESTION FOR DHPMARINE.......

Hi!<br />There's a recent thread concerning someone who wanted to test a power pack off a 1973 115HP Johnson engine. You replied, "Randy, unfortunately proper testing requires a certain test meter, and the motor intact and cranking.<br />DHP"<br /><br />Are you referring to the M80 or S80 neon...

1974 115HP Johnson only firing on 1 cylinder

1974 115HP V4 Johnson. Using an automotive in-line type spark tester, it appears my engine has only 1 cylinder firing. I ohmed-out my coils, and all seem OK. I did a search of previous threads and using that information I'm leaning toward a power pack. I have the Service Manual specific for...

1974 115HP Johnson Left Me Stranded....

1974 115 HP Johnson. Cruising down the river at maybe 1/2 throttle, fat, dumb & happy. Out of the blue, engine stalls :( It starts immediately, but I notice that I can't increase the idle speed regardless of the position of the warm-up lever. Engine also vibrates a bit. As soon as I put...

What's the secret to getting the boat straight on the trailer?!?

Okay, maybe this is a basic "learn by doing" situation, but how the heck do you know the boat is in the right position on the trailer before you pull the boat from the water? Obviously I'm new to boating. I rented a slip but the wifey didn't like the marina. She decided it would be best to...

Why use hooks on safety chain when towing?

I need a quick education...why are safety chains on boats and other trailers simply hooks that attach to the loops on the hitch? My hooks are too small for my hitch so I simply removed the hooks, route the safety chain through the loops on the hitch, and install a bolt to secure the chains. I...
