'95 Freedom 170.......Positioning Outboard on Transom

My problem is where to position outboard on transom because of stepped hull. I know on a boat without stepping, you place the cav plate even with or slightly above keel line, but what about stepped hulls?? Even all the way down it wont reach the bottom of the keel, so that theory doesn't hold...

    Rejuvenating 27 year old Chrome

I've completed most of my restoration, the only thing I'm not happy with is the condition of the chrome around the windshield. It's pretty "cloudy", for lack of a better word, kind of hazy & chalky. I've tried "Silvo" and "Nev-R-Dull", but neither seems to do much of anything. Does anyone know...

    "PB" Components

Hi All I have "OOPS" original PB recipe, just a quick question. I want to use it to 'fillet' (I think that's the correct term??) the 3 edges of my new transom. It calls for resin, cabosil, and 'milled fibers'. I have a few scraps of 1.5 oz. mat left over from wrapping the transom, can...

    Supermarine "Revolution" Marine Paint

After hours (& hours:eek:) of reading & research, I finally decided I'd like to use this paint for my '84 Thundercraft Resto. The main reason they won out was the vast array of colours available and I was planning on using 3 on my boat.:) Now I discover that if I order this it may be denied...

80 HP Merc, won't 'put out'

I have a 1979 80HP inline 4 that I just acquired. Did a comp test and had it idling on the muffs before I closed the deal, seemed to run great!:) 1st problem was gas squirting out the vent on the bottom carb, so rebuilt the carbs and eliminated that problem.;) So, off to the river to see how...

    Carb rebuilding questions

Hey All I'm trying to get a 1979 80HP Merc up & running like it should. It starts after a choke-a-thon and idles beautifully once it's warmed up. The problem is it spurts/squirts gas out of the 'little brass thingy' to the left of the throat on the bottom carb. (whatever that's called...

    I have a 1980 50 H.P. w/ PT&T and a guy wants to trade for a 1979 80 H.P. w/o PT&T. Obviously the guy wants the PT&T to stay w/ the 50 Horse, my question is with regards to the 80 Horse.
