48 special tilt assist won't go all the way down

The cable broke so I let the pressure out of the set screw to get the motor down. I’m fine with leaving the cable broken but the engine does not go all the way down. Under throttle it will force it’s way down but then it bounces back up or trims up a couple of inches. Is there a proper way to...

    Torsion axle life expectancy.

How long does a torsion axle last before the rubber breaks down and the axle is junk? I’m looking at a 10 year old 7,000 pound trailer with tandem axles. California fresh water trailer loaded right and taken care of by a buddy. It is priced right but not if I will need to buy two fresh axles...

    Narrowing a trailer frame

I needed a narrow trailer for a long skinny Grumman Sportboat. The frame I had was just way to wide so the easiest thing to do was grind off the mounts on the axle frame and relocate them in. The frame did not bend easy. It took three ratchet straps for safty and I had to pull the rails until...

    Tieing knot to EXACT length

I need a knot for an exact length when loaded to within 1/4-1/2” without the bulk of truckers hitch. I don't want to go with a turn buckle and associated hardware. Imagine hanging an anchor from a celing beam 1\4” off the floor with clean looking rigging. Is there a knot that I could use to dial...

Blue sky (up) Green Grass (down) trim pump

I watched a guy pull his Sea Ray out last evening and drag the outdrive on the ramp. As I was loading my boat I noticed they were still at the waters edge so I asked if they needed help. "I just bought it and the drive won't go up". It's getting dark. I thought it may just be bound on the...

    Avon Redseal hypalon boat refirb

I found a home for the 4 horse folding outboard that I refirbished. I left it ugly as a theft deterrent but it runs like a top.

    Tire sidewall repair

I fixed a nasty 3" rip in a sidewall. I sewed it up with waxed nylon cord. A patch was installed inside for good measure. Shoo goo got smeared over the outside threads. What do you think? Good as new?

    1976 Evinrude 15HP Dies.

Gents, I'm resurrecting a 15604R 1976 Evinrude 15hp that sat for 9 years. I replaced the starter rope, water pump, upper ignition coil and cleaned the carb. It starts, runs and idles great but after 2 minuets it dies. Bulb stays hard and pumping makes no difference. It starts right back up and...

    Cleaning metal outboard tanks

I've got a Merc tank and two OMC metal tanks from the 80's that were full of old rotten gasolene. Luckily little to no rust because of the desert. They have that brown goo from ethanol and they need a good washing of the inside. Any recomendations as far as soap goes? I'd like to use water and...

Am I being a Richard Cranium?

Lake Pleasant AZ is the big lake near Phoenix. It has one stretch at the mouth clearly marked No Skiing. It's so nice to get away from the surf boats doing circles and the canyon walls block some wind and provide shade. You see party barges enjoying the peace or old school jet boats wanting to...

Smaller or larger diameter prop **Results Added**

I've narrowed my prop choice down to two based on availability. They are both OEM props. One is a stainless 11 1/4" X 19 pitch and the other an aluminum 12" x 17 pitch. I'm leaning toward the smaller diameter higher pitch but never experianced a diameter change before. What's effect does...
