So I picked an 81 johnson 90 horse v4 last year and had it out once. it ran alright other than dropping a cylinder (bad coil pack) every once in a while.
I had a finicky idle and hard to start without giving it a lot of gas.
Did a comp test and had a wide range of readings from 80 down to 30...
So my parents were the victims of the Butte Wildfire out in California last month. Thought you guys might be interested in what happens to a 22ft party tracker with a 90hp yamaha after a wild fire. Fire is a weird thing. The Mihandra tractor in the second picture had the trailer hitched up to...
So I repowered my pontoon with a 81 Johnson 90 and I am having a few issues.
First and foremost I know this motor needs rings. I tested compression when I first got it on the boat and it was low but I couldn't get repeatable results between the cylinders. So in the off season I will be...
My current rectifier isnt charging and not driving my tach. I ordered a new sierra rectifier which is a 3 wire. The one my motor is a 4 wire. I'll try to lay it out below.
Rectifier Wires --------> Terminal Board/Motor Wires

I have a 81 Johnson 90 I just put on my pontoon. Everything runs good. Only real issue is my tachometer does not work, and im not getting a voltage jump from my battery while running.
First off about the voltage. Reading straight off the battery without the motor running. I get 12.8v With...
I have a 99 Suntracker that was powered by a 1996 Force 50 that I replaced with an 81 Johnson 90. Just got it installed and all the wiring tied into the stock harness as well as the control box and cable ran. Motor runs great and idles good, but I have two issues.
First one is...does anyone...
I need a 1996 force 50 Wiring Diagram. My boat has a 1996 force 50 and I am going to be putting on an early 80's johnson 90. My boat has a 7 pin ( i think, need to confirm) connector. Just trying to get a map or where I need to go.
Sorry everyone, I didn't measure the motor right. The current motor is a 20" motor. Before I measure from the mounts to the actual prop shaft. But I found the correct way and it is 20 inches from the mounts to the bottom of the cav plate.
Here are pics as requested, Looks factory to me.
So I have a 99 Suntracker with a force 50 motor that the top cylinder broke a ring landing. I am currently weighing my options of replacing that piston or just getting a new motor.
The force is a 24 inch motor and the anticav plate sits about 5 inches below the bottom of the motor pod. Also...
Got a free pontoon last year with a 96 force 50. It blew the adapter plate gaskets out 2 times. This year I found a couple cracks on the adapter plate and it was a little warped. I had the cracks welded and I flattened the plate out the best I could. Got it put back togeter and found out...
Trying to get my motor going and having issues with the starter. I might get 1-2 compression strokes before it stalls out. ALl contacts are clean. Even ran jumper cables straight to starter and still nothing.
Has anyone had success tearing one apart and sanding down the brushes and comm or...
So after a disastrous last season with this motor, and blowing out adapter plate gaskets in under 10 hours I pulled the powerhead off and found my adapter plate is cracked. I highlighted the cracks in red on the picture. It also has a very slight warp to it, it will rock back and forth on a...
I've got a 96 Force 50 I have had out a few times. It is pain in the rear to get started. I have to give it about half throttle to get it to fire. It runs like a champ above 3k. Under that it feels like it misses, the tach drops off 500rpm before the motor catches itself. And when i does...
So I think I finally got the issue with my motor blowing out adapter plate seals behind me, now I am dealing with the prop. I've uploaded a picture of where the motor is sitting now and thats as low as it will go. Its a force 50 turning a solas amita 11.6x11 3 blade prop at 5200 RPM and I can...
