    What is the cause for "drifting"?

    Right about 60mph it sounded like my prop started to aerate, rpm spiked a little and all at the same time the stern of my boat started sliding out to the side. I immediately pulled back on the throttle and came right out of it. Water was smooth, I wasn't near peak rpm. 26" prop. Measured by gps.

    Tach over 2000 rpm off??

    23 foot pontoon, mercruiser 3.0. 21 pitch Mirage prop. 35mph wot light load tach reads 2200 rpm. That would give me -67% prop slip. Realistically I'm turning 4600 rpm or so. Boat was bought brand new 4 years ago by my parenents. All this time he thought wot was 2200 rpm. What's the deal?

    Best props to try before dropping big $

    18' rinker captiva approx 2500 pounds dry empty. 4.3 was the largest engine offered but it's been fitted with a 5.0/LX. Alpha one gen 2, 1.83 ratio drive.
