    Always in gear.

Hello everyone. I have a 1968 Evinrude 3hp that is direct drive(always in gear). To reverse you just turn the motor around 180 degrees. I plan on putting it on a a 14' aluminum boat. How hard do you think it would be to launch this off of a trailer in small lakes? I'm worried about the boat...

    Will a car topper work?

Hello everyone. I just bought a 3hp 1968 Evinrude with a folding lower unit and it runs great. I was wondering if an aluminum boat of 12 or 14 feet would be OK for this motor. Do you think I could put the boat on top of a Ford Escape or would I need to trailer it? The lakes I boat on are small...

    Motorless Boat

Is it possible to buy a new boat without a motor? I have a 1 year old 60 hp Mercury and thought about buying a boat with no motor. It seems like all the manufactures only sell complete packages.

    NEED TRAILER BRAKES

Hello everyone. My boat and trailer weigh 2340 lbs. California, I think requires anything over 1500 lbs. to have brakes. My axle has about a 1.5-2.0 inch offset at the spindles and there is no backing flange to bolt brakes onto. Do I have to buy a new axle without the offset and has flanges or...

    GREAT FISHING, BAD TIRES

Hello everyone. I went fishing last week 300 miles from my home. I lost the tread on one of my tires going up and lost the tread on my spare coming home. Cost $345.00 for one tire in the middle of nowhere but at least I made it home! My tires looked good but must have been old. Anyway, I 'm...

    Water Logged?

My 17' aluminum StarCraft hulled Monark is always bone dry when when I take it off the lake. My question is, will there be signs of water in the bilge if my foam has water in it. Can I look at the foam somewhere to see if it's wet? When I take the seat pedestals out there is a small hole in the...

    BOAT FOR LEARNING

Hello everyone. I've been power boating for a while and would like to try sailing. I found a nice Hobie Cat Vagabond 14 for $500.00 Would this be a good boat to learn on? I live near a small lake (250 acres) that has nice afternoon breezes. Thanks.

Hello again. My next project is putting in a new stereo head (speakers are ok). The PO wired the old head directly to the battery. The red and yellow wires are joined together near the head connector under the dash and then run as one red wire back to the battery. The ground wire also runs from...

    ROCKER SWITCHES ON DASH

Hello everyone. I have a question about two of my switches on the dash. The first one is for the navigation lights. the switch has three positions, NAV on top, a middle position, and ANCHOR on the bottom. When my aluminum boat gets wet such as in a rain storm it blows a fuse and I lose everything on the dash board including my bilge pump. The engine continues to run fine. If the boat isn't wet everything works fine. Any ideas?

    Rough Shimano Stradic

My Shimano Stradic spinning reel is very smooth without a load on it. If I retrieve a fish or a heavy lure it feels rough. I took it apart, cleaned and lubed it according to Shimano's directions. The only thing I replaced was the anti reverse bearing. Any suggestions how to smooth this thing...
