So the lower unit came of easy. Steering swivel too. But the exhaust housing seems to be stuck on there pretty good. I have removed all six of the long 3/8 bolts and six 1/4-20s. Smacked it a bunch of times with a plastic dead blow mallet. No luck. Any tips on getting it loose?
Heh... you got a good memory! I kinda got tired of messing around with it! This powerhead is newer and in better shape. I'll still try to get it running and re-sell it, or I'll put it on another hull.
Hey, I don't want to hijack an old link, but I have a similar question with with a 200 hp carbureted Johnson.

I have an aqua sport bow rider with a 25 inch transom. I bought a 200 hp Johnson 90° motor (J200VLSIF) with a 20 inch leg on it, which I want to mount on my 25 inch transom.
I’m hoping to pick up a 25 inch midsection and outdrive to put on the 200 horse Johnson.
I found a guy who is selling at...
We’re doing the compression check. But he sold the boat to somebody else. Guy works out of state and he’s coming back Thursday to pull the motor.
I’m mostly concerned about compression. Anything else I can probably fix myself…. Thanks to this forum! Heh.
I’m abouta buy a 200 Hp Johnson (2000 year). Seller sent a video of it running on a hose. I will do a compression check before we pull the motor. Does this sound right to you guys? Seems to be surging a little bit at idle. But I don’t even really know what they’re supposed to sound like.
Everything is installed and working as advertised with the shift cables.
Just gotta put the carbs back on, torque em to about 50 inch pounds and it’ll be ready to launch, apart from some little stuff
So… I had a total Homer Simpson “Doh” moment last night. The cables are in fact identical. When they’re connected to the control box, and the control box is in neutral, the throttle cable is fully retracted and the shift cable is only halfway retracted.
When I shifted to the forward position...
Hmmm… mine both run down the starboard side. I’ll reassemble tomorrow and post pictures.
My old shift cable works fine, it was the throttle cable that got corroded and locked up. I just thought I’d do the shift cable while I was in there.
🤷♂️
Yes. I reinstalled the old shift cable and installed the new throttle cable, just like they came out. This photo was taken with the shifter in neutral.
I replaced my throttle cable on my 1998 150 HP 60°. I bought two Teleflex Extreme CC20523 cables thinking I would replace both the throttle and the shift cable.
The throttle cable matched the old cable perfectly. But the old shift cable end doesn’t line up with the new one.
Is there...
I wondered if that was the case. I didn’t want to open up the other carbs to check and didn’t think to look online for pix.
Where the metal tabs inserted into the float there was some rust. That surprised me, because I would have thought that part was stainless steel.
Either way I bought a...
