1991 20' Bayliner - New Stereo System Questions

I am looking to replace my current (non functioning) stereo in my boat. I found and purchased from Amazon an XM Receiver and Antenna (SXV300v1 & SRA-50B). I am looking at a Kenwood KMR-D772BT Stereo receiver. Any feedback on these items? The XM items are required for any XM Ready stereo, so I...

    Oil Filter for 1991 Bayliner 4.3L V6

I purchased a boat last year, and had major engine work done. I would like to change my own oil this year in prep for summer. I have no idea what Oil filter I need.... It is a 1991 20ft Bayliner, with a Mercury 4.6L Engine. 185hp. V-6. Also, is Penzoil 10-30 ok? Thanks in advance. -Frank

4 Blade Spitfire propeller with different shaped blades

I just got my new Mercury Spitfire 4 blade prop, it's a 14 x 21p. It has two blades that are rounder than the other two. I know this is by design, but just wondering what the effect of this is.... I'm assuming one shape is for better hold shot, and the other for top speed. But figure...

Testing Surge brakes & Emergency brake cable

I have a single axle trailer that I tow my 20' Bayliner Capri with. About 3,500lbs total. Does anyone have a suggestion, or best practice to test the Surge brakes? Not sure I want to go out and just slam my brakes !! Also, is there a way to test the emergency cable? And if it engages, how...

    Using soap in ski boots...

I saw a UTube video where a skier put what looks like soap in the boots before putting the ski on. Do many of you do this? Is this a good practice to get a good fit? I know I struggle sometimes to get my feet in. I am guessing that the water washes the soap out, and the feet stay in. But...

    Tongue Weight

While we are on the subject, I have a single axle trailer holding my 20' Bayliner (2200lbs new). I read in here that there should be 60% weight on the front. So if my trailer is 1,200lbs and boat is 2,400lbs, then that is 3,600lbs. Does that mean 10% weight on the tongue? That would be...

Need bindings for Ski. How much and where to get?

I purchased a ski last year really cheap. Problem is, the bindings don't fit my feet. I called one ski shop and they quoted about $300.00 just for a front and rear binding. See pics. Is it worth paying that for this ski? I believe it's a good ski, but no expert here. It's an HO Fusion, I...

Single Ski w/adjustable bindings - beginner level

I recently purchased a boat, and me and my kids (young adults) want to wake board and ski. I have not skied for 5+ years, and was never advanced. My kids 19 yr old son / 21 yr old daughter have never skied. But have wake boarded. My son wants to learn to single ski. So I would like to find...

4 blade prop for 91 Bayliner Q: Aluminum or Stainless Steel?..

I have a 91 Bayliner Capri 2050. I have a 3 blade, but want to get a 4 blade for skiing and wakeboarding. I will be trying some samples from my local boat shop to get the max rpm range 4400 to 4800. Couple questions, should I test for WOT Rpm's alone or with people? Or does it matter...

U.S. Engine Inc. Mercury 4.3 V6 Long Block replacement

So... I have a 1991 Bayliner Capri 2050. It has a 4.3L V6 2bbl. Bayliner says its 131hp. I just bought the boat used, and turns out it needs some major repairs. Two of the six cylinders are not firing, and actually are spitting water. So either a blown head gasket, or worst. Currently...

Lawrance LVR-850 Radio - How to use?

My boat has a Lowrance LVR-850 radio. No antenna. I plan to get the antenna when I get it service in the next couple weeks. So I assume this is not a typical CB radio... Can anyone explain how I would use this? I assume I could use it if I was stranded somewhere. I do not have GPS or...

Proper Trim for Inboard / Outboard - 1991 Bayliner Capri Merc

In reading these posts, I am seeing people state that they Trim Up to get better speed. I am new to boating so am just trying to learn. Don't I want to trim (lower the prop) down so that the boat planes flat on the water for best speed? And if I trim Up, doesn't that point the nose of the boat...

1991 Bayliner Capri 2050 Max speed 38 mph at 3300 rpm

I just purchased a boat from a friend. It runs ok, but is a little hard to start. I am new to having a boat, so maybe my expectations are wrong. I expect it to start like a car, just turn the key and it starts. But I have to pump the throttle a few times, and give about 50% gas for it to...
