1993 Chaparral Gemini 190: Chronicles of a New Boat Owner (Deck Rebuild) [SPLASHED June 2018]

This is how much has been dripping out since I first posted about it earlier.

1993 Chaparral Gemini 190: Chronicles of a New Boat Owner (Deck Rebuild) [SPLASHED June 2018]

Took it out again this evening and the admiral was loving it. I enjoyed watching her relax finally after this 7 month adventure, myself included :). Found out the water is getting in through the hose to the live well, the foam under it is dry rotted so it appears to be leaking around the...

1993 Chaparral Gemini 190: Chronicles of a New Boat Owner (Deck Rebuild) [SPLASHED June 2018]

We certainly were Rem, and folks...we're officially SPLASHED! We have a few cosmetics to finish up on, as well as finding where some water entered the bilge today, but other than that it was a smooth first ride for sure. The first picture is the view of our house from the water, and the second...

1993 Chaparral Gemini 190: Chronicles of a New Boat Owner (Deck Rebuild) [SPLASHED June 2018]

After 8 hours of boat work today, we're ready for a splash tomorrow morning! We started off the day sealing up some screw holes in the back of the boat with fast cure 3M 5200, resealing/attaching the speedometer and depth finder. After that we installed the rub rail (was nice and toasty after...

1993 Chaparral Gemini 190: Chronicles of a New Boat Owner (Deck Rebuild) [SPLASHED June 2018]

Absolutely, and we did take a ton of measurements! Which, surprisingly, every hole lined perfectly up except for the transom and we just couldn't figure out why. If you're looking at the boat from the side, the line in red is the area of the transom that was the issue. I simply just had it too...

1993 Chaparral Gemini 190: Chronicles of a New Boat Owner (Deck Rebuild) [SPLASHED June 2018]

Long morning/early afternoon. Aluminum railing wasn't an exact fit to the new cap install (2 holes were off) so we had to pre drill new holes followed by 3M 5200 #12 3/4" screws. After that we moved on to the rub rail insert, all with #10-12 screws (depending on the size of the previous hole)...

1993 Chaparral Gemini 190: Chronicles of a New Boat Owner (Deck Rebuild) [SPLASHED June 2018]

Gentlemen, I have officially hit a roadblock. Everything was put back together today... drain hoses, fuel/vent hoses, bilge pump, aerator, steering cables, all hooked up and good to go. When we dropped the cap....everything was going fine BUT in the transom area, we are roughly 3/8" off from...

1993 Chaparral Gemini 190: Chronicles of a New Boat Owner (Deck Rebuild) [SPLASHED June 2018]

I was able to go back and find a better picture BC that shows where that piece/hose goes. Not sure if that helps but I can’t find the piece anywhere online still lol. As far as the fish finder goes, I may just waterproof the edges and call it a day since I really don’t want to risk breaking it...

1993 Chaparral Gemini 190: Chronicles of a New Boat Owner (Deck Rebuild) [SPLASHED June 2018]

Spent the morning working on just some small things to cross off the list. At the moment I'm just waiting on the PL to cure on the pedestal bases, but I ran into a couple things I have absolutely no clue about. On the fish finder it appears to have screws under a plate, but I can't get access to...

1993 Chaparral Gemini 190: Chronicles of a New Boat Owner (Deck Rebuild) [SPLASHED June 2018]

Certainly are Rem! Date for the cap reunion is May 12th. Weather was too crappy to get to anything Sunday, so this week will be for seat bases, finishing glassing, sanding with the new ROS I picked up, and praying the sunshine holds up. The tricky part for me is these carpeted wood pieces inside...

1993 Chaparral Gemini 190: Chronicles of a New Boat Owner (Deck Rebuild) [SPLASHED June 2018]

Had a great day working on the boat this afternoon. My dad came over again to finish wiring the speakers and radio, while I finished up on most of the deck work. Tomorrow I'll work on drilling the holes for the swim ladder and fish finder, adding the last piece of glass on the deck, sanding the...

1993 Chaparral Gemini 190: Chronicles of a New Boat Owner (Deck Rebuild) [SPLASHED June 2018]

Last session of the day; sanded down some rough spots, another acetone bath, and then a poly soak on the deck. After that I laid down 3 pieces of CSM, and hopefully Tuesday or Wednesday I'll go back over those areas with the 19oz glass.

1993 Chaparral Gemini 190: Chronicles of a New Boat Owner (Deck Rebuild) [SPLASHED June 2018]

This morning I got out and plugged the foam holes, tabbed the rest of the deck, and got the above deck hull cleat installed. Later on I'm thinking about going back out to sand it all and get to cutting on the CSM. I'm going to do .8oz of CSM instead of doubling it, and then follow with a layer...
