Gotta be "Spill the Wine" by Eric Burdon & War.

Add Jonathan Edwards Shanty and George Baker Selection's Little Green Bag and commence to flashback.

Here are a few of my favorites for the water. Some are obvious and some are just songs that resonate with me for one reason or another.

Gordon Lightfoot - The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald
Paul Simon - America
Styx - Come Sail Away
Fleetwood Mac - Go Your Own Way
The Who - Baba O'Riley
Steppenwolf - Magic Carpet Ride
Iron Maiden - Rime of the Ancient Mariner
Colin Hay - Waiting For My Real Life To Begin
O.A.R. - I Feel Home
Rush - Freewill

All Summer Long (My number one, by Kid Rock)
Any Bob Marley (Get a "Best of" CD set)
Any Jimmy Buffet (Boats, Beaches, Ballads and Bars is a good four CD set)
If I had a boat (I think it's the Garth Brooks version, not Lyle Lovett)
Some Beach Boys for wake surfing!
Legalize it by Peter Tosh
Some UB-40
A few Kenny Chesney (Listed previously)
Calypso by John Denver
Longer Boats by Cat Stevens

Gordon Lightfoot offers some songs about boats and the oceans and the high seas.
-The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald - a profound and deep song about the Edmund Fitzgerald, which sank in Lake Superior in a vicious storm in 1975 with all 29 crew members perishing.
-High and Dry - song about the love of sailing
-On The High Seas - same as above
-Canary Yellow Canoe - about his own favourite canoe
-Ghosts of Cape Horn - song about the hundreds (1000's probably) of sailors lost in their adventures around the famous cape.

The big joke song for us is "I'm on a boat" by Lonely Island. But lately the theme song for my boat is "Kings and Queens" by 30 Seconds to Mars

Re: What is your favorite song to listen to out on the water?

A good friend of mine and a friend of his wrote and recorded a couple of albums in a cottage on the 1000 Islands. One of the songs ended up on "Lost" and is also in use in a Dawn soap commercial (the one where they're cleaning the oil-soaked waterfowl).

Their names are Jay Nash and Joe Purdy. The albums are known collectively as the River Albums - Jay's is "A Stream Up North" and Joe's is "Julie Blue". GREAT stuff to kick back and take in the scenery with. You can hear the water lapping against the dock in the background at the end of some of the songs. Of note are Jay's "Sirens"(about running aground at night), "Labor Day Blues" (perhaps because I once dated a 'Grindstone Girl' back in the day), "First Shiver" (because every season comes to an end some time), and "Sail Away". Also like Joe's "Wash Away", "Skinny Dippin' Girl", "Fish and Whisky", "St. Lawrence Spits" and "I Love The Rain The Most"
There are some live performances on You Tube of some of the songs....

If you want to listen to something a little different, check them out! Pretty much all of their stuff is available at I-tunes...

Didn't see anyone post "I'm gonna miss her" by Brad Paisley - good fishing tune.

How about "Smoke on the Water" by Deep Purple. Don't really know why that is the first thing that came to mind when I read the thread title. Had a roomate that played that song so much that I don't really care if I ever hear it again though.

Two favorite albums on the water, not sure why:

1. Money for Nothing by Dire Straits (album, not song)
2. Live Bullet by Bob Seger.

Props to those who recommended Steve Miller :)

Whoa, I just now went back and read all the posts. Looks like several of us like a lot of the same tunes. That's pretty awesome:)

I saw Chicago and Steve Miller in concert last year, and we're going to see Rush in Tulsa in September. I like rockin out with old farts :D

Shife, next time I'm in Michigan I may take you up on that.

Re: What is your favorite song to listen to out on the water?

im very passionate about my music. i bring my laptop out with me with about 250 gigs of tunes. mostly when on the water i lean towards something acoustic or what i like to call my lighter side. like anything with jerry garcia in it. allman bros, govt mule. loads of reggae and loads of blues, old and new. the black keys have been steady in rotation lately. sometimes its just shuffle and go with it. ya never know what you will here. my friends like that the best. never to loud though when chillin. just background mood music.
