Tell your wife that there are more than a few people that will gladly take the Nova off your hands, should you want to rebuild the '86 lol

Re: Bravo One Vs. Alpha?

I stand corrected on drive weights. Maybe I was thinking of a bravo 3. When I was making decisions on drives, I worked through a number of options for power and drives and am sure that by the time all was said and done I would have been adding close to a couple hundred pounds if we had changed out to a different drive from the gen 1 alpha that I'm running now.

and yes on > 400 horse in a 17 (and 1/2) foot boat. have been into the mid 70's with the 28" and 29" props and 1.81:1 gear ratio. So far a Hydromotive quad 4 was the best on the top end. At the end of last season we were running high 60's / low 70's with a 27" Mirage plus and the smart tabs too far down (set up to stay on plane at low speeds pulling daughter and her friends wakeboarding...). I generally don't rev it past 5500 rpm... Not sure how accurate the tach is and am going to see about another while I have it apart over the next couple of weeks.

Great looking Nova in the pics above...

Have been running Mobile 1 synthetic 75-90 wt gear lube in the outdrive

Rotella T 15-40 in the crankcase with a merc bigblock external oil cooler and filters... 7 quart oil pan run a tad low by the original dip stick.

Bond-O, what are you thinking on raising the x-dimension? (how far?)

Ayuh,... An Inch anyways,.... That's the Big Question...
Moving the motor forward a ft., ft.+ 1/2, running a jackshaft,..
Fuel load will be at, or slightly forward of original,...
I'm thinking 2" is Too many,... 1,+ 1/2" maybe,..??
'course then there's the swapping to a B3 lower Option.?.?.?
