The move from Texas to Maryland went OK. It was a sad day selling the 16 and 18 foot Super Sports ... They were both great boats and went to good homes.

I just picked up my next project. A 1974 21' Chieftan with a 165 mercruiser. It comes complete with a rotten floor and transom, a crappy paint job, and water in the oil.

Excellent! Another worthy project. Those seats look awful low,,would hope there are some pedestals to go with or someone was a super tall person.

Oh boy- All the good stuff. Rot, watery motor and bad paint. :blue: The bones look good. Better get some Yellow Pages to sit on. :) Those are low seats.

Glad the move is over and you can settle into the project. How is the trailer?

Looks good cj! Me likes! Maybe the low seat is a soft place to stand??? :)

Looking forward to see what you do with her!

Congrats on a successful move, and landing a 21ft Chieftain. It'll make a good Chesapeake Bay boat...

I agree about the seats and have been scratching my head on that one. I think the next picture shows a seat bracket circled in red. I'm going to scour through the projects on here and see if I find anything that looks like this bracket.

There is also a 'thing - a -ma -jig' that goes with the tilt/trim pump that I have no clue about:

Here are some more pics just for fun. I love the greens and yellows from the 70's....

Yah, no doubt, you had a flip down seat there with that bracket.

That thingamajig is a doughnut launcher, obviously.

The trailer isn't to bad ... well I've seen much worse anyway. It does need quite a bit of work though. It's a bunk trailer that needs new bunks and the rollers replaced. The main beam for the tongue is bent a little and I'll need to cut it off and weld a new beam on. The hitch is some kind of funky thing with some sort of brake switch built into it. I'll be welding a new hitch on anyway so I might as well address the bent beam.

If you look at the winch pillar in the picture above, you can see the beam takes a little dive upwards. And of course, the trailer needs a good grinding and some fresh paint.

It looks like some plates have been welded on the tongue. You have a tilt trailer, so all you need is a new tongue and weld on the new hitch. All the rest of the tongue attachments are bolt on. Does it or did it have brakes?

The doughnut launcher is your trim sender for when you run out of doughnuts. Items 52 & 59 here - MerCruiser 165 1970-1977 HYDRAULIC PUMP AND TRIM INDICATOR CONTROL PANEL Parts

There should be some legs for the side seat. Maybe stashed in the boat somewhere.

EDIT - Here is a better diagram of the doughnut launcher - http://www.mercruiserparts.com/Show...r=160&bdesc=TRIM+INDICATOR+ASSEMBLY,+COMPLETE

Thanks Jas and GA.... I thought Jas was kidding about the doughnut :joyous:

The trailer is a tilt and has brakes on 1 axle. I'll have to do something with the tongue.... but will probably wait to see if a glass donor is needed. I'm just glad those bugger looking welds held for the trip to the house.

Of course you need a glass donor! Isn't that the only way to rebuild a tinny? :D

I see one of the seat supports right here in the cabin, on the deck between the two berths...the u-shaped aluminum tube:

If you have the other one, and the other bracket, you're in business. I have a '74 mini Chief, and all I had in the boat were the supports. I'm still trying to figure out a homemade version of what you've got there for brackets/hinges. I really like the fold down seat option for cockpit space flexibility.

Oh yeah...nice boat!

Eagle Eye Chem found the feet. She may only have one folding seat for the helm. I don't see any hardware to port.
