I'm trying to figure out the year of my 1150...these are the serial numbers I found.... Block: 852-3884 with an H under the dash... Head: 1023 3755... these are the only numbers I could find that were stamped that was a "permenant" type part...not like a filter or pump or something... the engine is a Kiekhaefer Mercury 1150... has the "Thunderbolt Ignition"...says "direct charge 6" on the back...engine is all black...under the hood is all aluminum...nothing is painted under the hood...hope this is enough information for someone to chime in...thanks again for all ya'll help...don't you love forums!!

It sounds like a 1970 - 72 Silver block. Look on the motor bracket under the front of the powerhead for the serial number, or on the flange near the where the starter bolts up to the block. I just replied to you on another thread. Try to find a similar vintage parts engine for wiring and a good distributor, (no more then $200.00 with a good lower unit fer a spare). Don't let any one convince you to try the "float test" with it, as they are actually GREAT MOTORS, and only mediocre anchors!!! Good luck! JR

Sometimes the casting number and the part numbers are the same ( talking old mercs ), checked the "head" 1023 3755.... came back as 1023-3755A1 cyl block cover .

This cover was used on
1000 BP 1969
1150 1970/71/72
1250 BP 1969
1350 1970/71
1400 1972

Also checked the block number 852-3884 = 852-3884A3 superceded to 852-4843A5 ( cylinder block ) was used with in the 00000000-03023086 serial range ( from Merc catalog )
02836019 - 03023085 = 1970

1970 was the first year for the new production "direct charge" engines
(1969 1250 BP was the prototype )
