Hi every body,

Since many years I own a Yam F115 and I am expert of it ;o).
I want to buy a new boat and I have seen a Triton fitted with a 250 HPDI (2005) 600 hrs used.
I do not know Yam HPDI motors, but I saw a lot of topics with problems with this outboard (powerhead blown).
Could you tell me if Z250 (2005) is a good engine or not and if it is less reliable than a 4 strokes ?
Many thanks

Thanks Rodblot,
Sorry but I am not sure I have understood your answer, I am not familiar with US expression.
Does it mean I could have a lot of problems with 250 hpdi ?
Many thanks

Re: Yamaha Z250 (250 HPDI) advice

step 1, hold your wallet with BOTH hands.

step two, without making any sudden moves back away slowly.

step 3 when your out of spitting range quickly turn and RUN AWAY.

out of ALL the Z motors the Z250 was the most problimatic.
failures were typically sudden and catastrophic.
the Z300 runs a close second.

if the oil pump, pump link arm,ECU and regulator updates were done its not quite so bad, however the 3.3L yamaha motors WONT tolerate ANY fuel system issues.
they also dont tolerate ANY cooling system degadation.
only nice thing I can say about the 3.3L Z motors is they dont have an O2 sensor.

if well maintained, and that means more than spark plugs once a year, they ran ok.
if not the death is sudden violent and without warning.
