I own a 1988 Pro-Line 17' center console in excellent shape and want to re-power. Currently has a 1999 Suzuki 100 HP two stroke. I'm going to upgrade to a 2006 or newer Yamaha four stroke, either F90 or F115. The boat's dry weight (without motor) is 1500 pounds according to the manufacturer. Max HP rating for this boat is 120 HP. I've been told by some that the Yamaha F90 on this boat will have plenty of power and will be more fuel efficient. Others have said go with the F115...will have more power when I need it, and can cruise at lower RPM's which will be more fuel efficient and less wear on the engine. Any opinions from you experts out there would be appreciated. Thanks.

Took a quick look at the specs for a 90 vs 115...

They're both 4 cylinder motors (the 115 has just a little more displacement) and weigh within 30 pounds of each other. IMO, you aren't going to save a measurable amount of fuel by buying the smaller motor. As long as the new motor budget is okay, my choice would be the 115, hands down.

I have an 2006 F90. I like it a lot and can't complain one bit about this fine engine. It really was an excellent purchase. It does weigh more that I would like and if I had to do it all over again I would at least look at the E-TEC engines.

They're basically the same engine and weigh the same. Go with the 115 hp model, as they're not that much more expensive than a 90 hp. A 1500 lb boat is actually a pretty heavy boat.

I have a 20ft xpress cc with the Yamaha f115. It's real good on fuel and has the power when needed. This motor has given me no problems and is quiet as well. My boat weighs 1260 dry without the motor. Remember no one ever said they wish they had less power.
