Took the boat out today and it started fine and ran good. We stoped in one place and when my wife started the boat it would'nt stay running. It would start sputter some and then cut off. I tried pumping the ball, giving it gas when started and it would rev up then as it came down it would shut back down. Almost felt like not firing properly. If the timimg coil goes bad would it start and cut off or just not start at all? If it was a fuel pump or restriction by trying to pump ball wouldnt it keep running? Motor is E200TXECM 1998. I have'nt had time to look as we were catching fish while waiting for seatow. I suggest everyone get sea tow. Any ideas before i dig into it

Re: wont stay running

Checked the fuel system all tested good. Checked coils are are within range. Have'nt pulled flywheel yet but looking under it saw one of the coils oozing the black tar and a lot of it around the trigger. Agian if the spark doesnt advance with the throttle I assume it floods .

If you have goo oozing down it is time to pull the flywheel.
