I have a 78 115 evinrude with a bad powerhead, but I found a cheap 76 75hp johnson stinger without power trim. Can I put the 78 power trim on the 76 johnson? how hard will this be?

No. The swivel bracket on the 76 won't work with the dual piston/single tilt piston setup. Also, the transom brackets are different on the 76 and are not made to support/bolt the later trim unit. The long shaft 1976 stingers were made to work with the older twin trim pistons that mount outside the two transom brackets. That swivel bracket is made to work with the big lift bracket that mounts/bolts horizontally between the twin trim rams. If you have a short shaft (15") 75, it was adaptable to a single piston "tilt" only system that year. You can check out the exploded factory parts diagrams for yourself: epc.brp.com
