What help do you need? "Some work" is pretty general, lol ;)

I would start by getting the OEM Service Manual.

 Basically, its been sitting for about 3 years (so I was told by the seller). I need to clean out the carb and get the rebuild kit, do the same to the water pump. The spark plugs look new and the wiring harness looks good too. I will take a look at the impellar too.
I just ordered the manual for this specific motor, should be here by Mon or Tues.
Will in need to buy the entire rebuild kits or can I get by with buying individual parts? I know I will need a whole new fuel system, (tanks, lines etc.)
Ya know, some work;)
do you have any tips? Warnings?
Thank you!!!!!!!!!!!

Do a compression test first before buying anything.:)

Well starting with a few questions before we start recomending advise.

1) Was it run in salt water or fresh?
2) Did you here it turn over?
3) Have you tried to start it? What out come?

Thing to do.

1) Compression test
2) Impeller replacement (fresh water) water pump kit (Salt)
3) Change lower unit oil. (if white or water in it seal kit)
4) Rebuild fuel pump (new diaphram)
5) Rebuild carbs (full carb kits. Soak carbs in Varsol for at least a day and the scrub with tooth brush and pip cleaners)
6) Reset points, possible new points and condensor.
7) Check all fuel lines (any crack or iffy connections replace hose)
8) Check thermo stats (new gaskets-fresh water, thermo kits salt)
9) Link and sinc motor to factory manual.<
10) Check tell tail and any pulse hoses for air leaks and spiders.<
11) Check if recurc systen is plugged.
12) Check all fuel filters (if any)
13) Decarb motor when running.
14) Then new plugs (if the old ones are working use them to decarb motor)

This way you know you will not be stranded on the water.

Hey Bisson, thanks for that great tips to get started! I picked up the boat (71' Glastron V176) with trailer for $300. Everything "looks" sound, but I will definately do all the things you recommended. I will update you on my progress. Thanks again for your help!

Hey Fellas, quick question:

When I took my gear case off, it seemed like the shift cable broke off as you can see in the picture. Did i just make a world of work for myself or am I still okay?? Can I just reconnect a new one and drop it through and wire it up? Thank you for your advice!
