I have a ... 1989 sea ray 160 bowrider. I would like to know if and how can I install a trolling motor on my boat. Basically want it for an extra power source in case of main engine failure. Has anybody ever installed one on their boat for similar reasons and if so , how did ya do it and what kind of thrust is needed . Thanks so much for any responses.....

Re: Where and how to install trolling motor

Ok, pictures are always helpful. I'm surprise this has been up all day without someone asking for them (so I will).
If all you want the trolling motor for is a backup to the main engine, you better not get too far from the dock. Battery life/state of charge and thrust will determine top speed and distance you will be able to travel.
Some people call gas trolling motors "kickers" which is what I have. A 9.9hp kicker is a completely different creature to say, a 45# thrust electric trolling motor. Cost, weight, use, the list goes on.
Get some pics up and I bet you get lots of helpful responses.
