What winch?

I have a 1990 Ski Challenger 21' Ski boat that is currently on a drive on trailer with bunks. My question is what capacity winch I should use.<br />Nada states that the net weight of my boat is 3500 pounds and then I probably load around another 250 pounds of gear. I dont like not having a winch at all and would appreciate the assist of anyone that knows the math to figure this out. <br />Thanks in advance,

If you go to where they sell winches, the packaging will usually have a suggested boat weight or length listed. You are not actually lifting the boat, you are pulling it up an inclined plane. My advice is to get one with a strap, not a cable.

I don't know what it technically should be...but as an example that may help, my 2,200 pound boat came brand new with a matched trailer that had a 1,400 pound winch on it.
