Re: What do you pull your boat with?

Ram SRT-10... Everyone kept telling me that I would struggle with anything over 4k lbs and the tranny would rip itself apart. No issues, though I've yet to fill her up with fuel and such. Just winched her right into an right out of the water. Sort of a get to know her and make sure I can do so before fixing the electrics test. Happy to report - no issues. A sigh of relief for other people who wanna haul toys with their toys!

I've got a 2005 F-250 diesel with the almighty 6.0  I've pulled loads with truck/trailer weights at 25k and never broke a sweat!

My 2005 F-350 6.0L diesel gets rode hard and put away wet. Drags the boat around in the summer and hauls the sled trailer and firewood on the ice road in the winter.

Re: What do you pull your boat with?

Still looking to buy my first trailerable boat, but my tow vehicle will be a 2011 Chrysler Town & Country van. Rated for 3600 lbs, but will need to add transmission cooler. Looking for boat that weighs 2300 lbs or less. Would like to have brakes on the trailer too but trailers for smaller boats often don't have them. I keep driving over to my closest boat ramps at local lakes and rivers, and 99% of tow vehicles I see parked there are pickups and SUVs. Rarely to I see a minivan, so I'm wondering...

Your van is adaquate to pull a small boat. Check out Starcraft Aluminum boats. You can go a bit bigger than a glasser and be where you want to be as far as weight is concerned.

2005 F-350 6.0

Nice looking truck! What mods do you have done to it?

No mods at all except what you can see on the outside. It was a custom factory build, though, so I got it exactly the way I wanted it. For its 10th birthday I'm planning to give it some new paint and do the 6.0 longevity mods (EGR delete, HPOP STC's, blue spring, and coolant flush). It's already had the cat removed. Ford replaced that every year until the warranty ran out and then it was history. Those early diesel catalytic converters did not play well at 40 below zero!

You should have no problems at all. I tow a 83 charger 180v open bow. It's 2400lbs plus trailer and gear. The trailer does have surge brakes. Never had a problem at the ramp. With that said I never go to dirt ramps. You know it's back there but I'm not trying to race with it. I keep it in 3rd at 60mph. You should do even better as my van has the 3.3 and you should have the new 3.6 that make a lot more power. Just remember to take it easy and no jack rabbit starts.

Re: What do you pull your boat with?

We have an 89 Four Winns 205 Sundowner. We started pulling it with our 08 Liberty against the advice of a lot of people. To be honest it pulled it great, you knew it was back there but we trailiered it over 300 miles to lake cumberland with it, no problems, pulled it right out of the lake at the Jamestown Marina whos launch if anyone has been there is quite hair raising. We however though decided to trade the jeep in for a Tahoe as we are now thinking about getting a slightly larger boat. Tahoe pulls amazingly well, very happy with it. But i would recommend either to anyone

Re: What do you pull your boat with?

I have been pulling my 7400 lb boat/trailer with a '99 Durango for the last 8 years (and my two previous boats in the first 6 years). My Durango has been simply awesome for towing. I cannot believe how reliably and safely it works despite being 14 years old and having 150,000 hard miles. If you are looking for a cheap, rugged, low-tech boat hauler that can serve double duty as a 7 passenger car, give a first generation Durango a try.

towing boat.jpg4Runner Towing.jpg

I don't think I've posted yet but have enjoyed checking out everyone's cool tow vehicle and rig.

I was using an 02 Tahoe that was my parents for years- when they sold I picked up this used 05 4Runner, I was nervous going to a V6 and smaller footprint, but it actually does better in some respects, it holds OD, better braking, has ample reserve power, and the MPG only drops off about 2 MPG from normal commuting while towing on the highway. Highly recommend so far.

I pull my travel trailer with a 2010 Ford F-150 4WD 5.4L V8 with 3.73 rear end.

Sort of looks like this (boat is missing from boat trailer).

The boat trailer is light -- 250 pounds empty.
The boat is lighter -- 150 pounds empty.

This rig is illegal in 20 states. I've got to be careful where I travel.
