OK so I am going to change the impeller for the first since I have owned my boat and I was wondering if you guys always replace the housing as well as the impeller and wearplates/gaskets?

I see that there are two kits out there, housing and non-housing kits.

If the water pump housing looks good and dont have any groves in it I would just change the impller and gaskets.

Agree with ^^^^^^. Inspect the wear plate and S/S cup insert for ANY grooves or wear points. If in doubt, change them.

At the very least, you will need the new impeller and gaskets.

What type of gasket goop should you use when doing this? Or none at all?

No goop necessary. Oil the o ring in the pump base, as well as the driveshaft, so you don't tear up the driveshaft seal. Oil the impeller housing to make installation easier.
