1994 Mercruiser 5.0 L, Alpha 1, Gen 2 outboard. I have pulled the engine thinking that maybe the frost plugs had popped out on the backside of the motor. No, they look brand new. I replaced driveline bellows, exhaust bellows, shift cable boot, and the suction water line hose, o-ring, gasket, gimble bearing, etc. Put it all back together, and took it to the river to test it. I backed it into the river and got up their and looked. WATER is pouring in from the drive line coupler area, and i didn't even start the dang motor.
I am lost!
Where is this water getting in at?
Could there be a way that it is coming out of the top of the upper unit and following the drive line through the bulwark and exiting at the coupler?
How would the water get past the gimble bearing?
We are talking a darn good flow of water.
What else am i missing here!
I double checked all the hose connections around there, everything checks out.
Boat shops around here don't have a clue or i am not important enough for them to care. I bet they would care if i offered them the business to figure it out and fix it.
Anyhow i guess i am done for the year, kids start school next week, and i will have until next summer to figure it out.
