ok, guess thats good news then although I sure dont see any cracks just some ridges of carbon build up or something.
Suppose it wouldnt leak until under pressure if there was

Where do I get new freeze plugs? I pushed that one back in a little and it started leaking

Thanks ALLDodge

I still dont see any cracks unfortunately in the manifold but that doesnt mean they arent there. The one thats marked I THINK is really just a built up 'ridge' of carbon deposit. I scraped it down flush and cleaned it, dont see any cracks.
Not sure about the chunk missing either if you look at the other side it looks similar

The freeze plug being a little pushed out concerns me. I guess theres really nothing more to do but buy an intake manifold, put it back together and see

You can test the manifold by making up a block off plate and pressurizing it. I would just bite the bullet and buy new ones though.

I already did your block off and pressure test suggestion through the thermostat Bruce and it passed fine (with JB Weld all over the outside wall crack on the manifold)
The only remaining question, sort of, is about the block

hey guys im back

So I got my hands on a block / head / exhaust manifold
The head and manifold look pretty rusty but the block seems ok and really that what I think is cracked on mine.

Comparing numbers on the block

Existing (cracked one) on the oil filter side says:
GM 3
2770087 - 3041B(or maybe 8) 6
cant see any serial number plaque

"new possible replacement" block
GM3
2770087 - cant really make out these numbers but they arent the same as the second set above
serial number: 5914369

both Hecho en Mexico :)

Is this enough information to tell if the new block is compatible with the rest of what I have?
The 'new' engine im pretty sure is alot older than mine
The valve cover says 140 on it and mine doesnt
The valve cover doesnt have the holes for the cable pivot like mine does
hold pattern in the head is slightly different from mine

But the block sure looks identical? Could it be?

Serial number 5914369 is for a 1979 to 1982 Merc 140. The two casting numbers being the same, then I would say they should both be equal. That said I can find no listing for the block cast numbers.
