Hi Folks,

Wondering if anyone has tried one of the VRO Replacement Fuel Pump Kits such as this one:

https://www.offshoremarineparts.com/62-13-8460.html

I'm having a "new" issue with my 2005 90hp Johnson 2 stroke carb'd OB Model (J90GLSOB) not wanting to get up much past 2800 RPMs...started last night kind of out of nowhere (no problems at all this season so far) as we left the beach. She stalled a few times, then ran in low throttle forward gear - went to get up on plane and she hesitated/bogged a little and wouldn't go past that 2800 RPMs or so. Came back down and up on plane a couple more times through no wake/wake zones, it got better each time, and the last time she finally slowly made it up to about 5000 RPMs. Still sounded rough though, almost louder than usual?

I premix my oil with the fuel (oiler side disconnected of course), and it's the original VRO-type pump still on the motor. Wondering if my fuel pump is finally going bad, I know I can rebuild the fuel pump side - kit is about $150. But also wondering if the replacement pump linked above is a simpler, slightly less expensive solution.

Also going to check the other usual suspects with the fuel delivery system. Most of my components are newer, including all ethanol-resistant lines and stuff.

Any other suggestions appreciated.

Thanks!

Dave

UPDATE: I took the boat for a spin after work, probably four miles up and down the river and lake, all speeds - no issues at all. Must've had some sort of vapor lock or gunk go thru the fuel system?

So, problem averted for now. I guess I would still like to know if anyone has used the aforementioned replacement fuel pump?

Thanks!

Glad you were able to clean the stuck gunk / gremlins out of its fuel system.

Last year, I bought an "old school" technology mechanical vacuum pump from a different supplier. re: Up to OMC 115 HP. Didn't have available time to install it this year. But if my "1995 [FONT=Verdana, Geneva, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif]115hp 60-degree's factory VRO pump (fuel side) blows, I have an immediate replacement fix. And, I continue to mix 50:1. Always good to have a plan B in one's back pocket.

Note: Think I bought "

What is the part number on your seller's site? Just wondering...

The part # on that seller's site is: 62-13-8460, and it replaces OEM part numbers 174955, 435555, 436203, 438400, 5004558, 5007420, 5007422, 8402-460, according to the seller. My motor is a 2005 90hp 60 degree setup. There is a different P/N for a 1997-2006 115hp: 62-13-8460. It looks like the P/N for your 1995 motor is also 62-13-8460.
