rebuilding a 2 cylinder 2002 volvo penta d motor, putting it back together but have no timing marks or can find any reference's to setting the camshaft timing. The manual says mark the cam and crank when you take it apart but what if you didn't or are replacing the cam?
You don't see any small dimple indents on the edge of the crank & camshaft gears. Should look like small center punch marks. I'm just going by what this online manual says. http://www.bluemoment.com/manuals/vo...002_worksh.pdf page 17 . I blew up the pic and I think I can see the small indents on the gears(?)
But then I also read "Not all Volvos have timing marks"
7A. Heat the camshaft gear wheel to a temperature of
approx. 150°C (302°F) and use a suitable sleeve to install it .
Check to make sure that the gear wheel "bottoms" on the
camshaft . Install the camshaft and make sure that the
markings on the camshaft gear wheel and on the crankshft
gear wheel coincide . Put the washer (1) on the hub of
the camshaft gear wheel . Check that all weights are presd
in so that the tabs (2) are inside the washer.
i cant see any marking that might refer to them and can only assume it is referring to the earlier section,
7. Remove the transmission cover: Start by removing the
throttle control cover. Use a suitable type of pliers to
the spring (1) . Then remove the end-nipple (2) and remove
the spring (3) . Remove the oil pump cover and mark the
gear wheels with a colour-pen before removing them .
(When installing the gear wheels, the marked side must be
facing outwards). Remove the bracing pin of the camshaft
using the special tool
p/n
884839. Never remove the
pin by punching it out, this can very well bendbracing the
camshaft . Remove the screws on the transmission cover
and pull it straight outwards.
its very unclear for such an important part. Any other ideas?
thanks Ellis
thanks, You usually need to set the 1 cylinder to tdc and set the cam intake lobe at 0 lift at the back of the cam but that could vary, i really would like to find someone with a definitive answer. IS THERE ANYBODY OUT THERE?
