Vibrations

We have a 1986 Bass Buggy with a 1986 40hp Mecury. Had this boat for 4 years and can't find the problem. Engine runs great for putting around a no wake lake but if we need to speed it up it starts to vibrate up thru the engine pod. Very loud. If I lift the back of the engine up away from the tilt pin the noise goes away. The motor it self dosen't seem to vibrate much, it revs smooth in neutral. When I replaced the water pump everything on the lower end seemed tight. I was told it sounded like a out of balance prop and while it looked OK I replaced it (12 1/4 x 9). Any ideas?

Re: Vibrations

Check transom for cracked welds and motor frame for cracks.

Thanks for replying. I had the pod out to replace the rusty bolts with stainless bolts & fender washers this spring and replaced the transom with new wood. Couldn't find any cracks in the transom welds. Didn't notice any cracks in the motor frame (not to say there is none) but I think I may have little play in the swivel pin assembly. The yoke is very loose.
