Using "Seaboard" or "Sea Board" to build an Extended Swim Platform ??

I saw on another board a member that described a material for building and Extended Swim Platform using "seaboard". I have never heard or seen this before and it looks really nice.

I am pretty handy with tools and woodworking and thought I could save a bundle by building my on ESP.

Does anyone hear know where I can find this "sea board"? Does it have some trade name or go by another name? I'd love to find some of this material and check it out.

Thanks a lot for any help.

Starboard is also very easy to work with as you can use woodworking tools.

Take a letter of credit with you when you buy a hunk that size.

That's nice but doesn't it hit the water when getting onto plane? I thought about building a new swim platform as well.My current one is 18 inches wide and i know when i'm coming onto plane the back of the swim platform is about 2 inches from hitting the water

Same company makes 'Seaboard'

CPG Seaboard? Grip-X?
The ultimate slip resistant board for safe footing on platforms and steps with four colors to choose from.
CPG Seaboard? Grip-X? is manufactured with a special surface treatment and stipulated pattern to achieve a slip resistant surface as compared with the matte CPG Seaboard? surface and other high density polyethylene marine grade materials.

you don't want to use starboard, not strong enough without a bunch of supports. you might be able to use a thicker sheet but $$$.

go fasts add platforms to their boats alot, powder coated aluminum usually i think.

Try www.swimplatforms.com might seem a little pricey until you figure out what that huge thing is going to cost you in time and materials!

Thank you for all the replies.

My swim platform would end up being about 70" across the stern and 30" deep going over the outdrive.

The current estimate I have on cost from one manufacturer of custom after-market swim platforms is $1180 crated, with freight costs to be determined later.

This Seaboard / Starboard material (HDPE) seemed just the ticket, even if it costs close to $500 for the material and hardware, I think I come out way ahead.

starboard won't be structurally strong enough. it will sag unless you have supports every 4" or so.

i looked into getting some HDPE in a size similar to what you describe for replacing the wood in my rear sundeck. i'm going with wood again.

Unless your building your OWN SS frame  i am missing the savings as i buy SS everyday and the price has gotten out of control

Which will need to be pretty robust to handle all that overhang

Here is something to consider as well as for replacement floors in your boat maybe.................

Extruded aluminum decking. Can place on up to 24" centered supports.
2 lb. per square foot. About 1/2 the weight of wood and much stronger.
No Splinters, Rot, or Rust
? COOL-Will not Burn your Feet
? Installs Faster than Wood
? Protects Deck Framing
? Fireproof - Value of "0"
? High Strength to Weight
? Safe & Non-Toxic

Plant is in Cullman, Alabama

no idea of cost though.
