I started lookin' at the gaskets today, and it looks like a burnt notch in the starboard gasket at about two o'clock on the left of center cylinder. It's the intake so who knows? I think I can get the plug out of the pan now, so I'm gonna drain what I can out of it, plug it back up, and run a bunch of acetone into the jacket. Then I'll give it some time, drain the pan again, see if there's acetone in there. Something else I don't get - that row of 3 water holes along the intake side of the head are an inch in diameter, but the corresponding holes in the gasket are only about 3/16". Why the flow restriction in the gasket?

I noticed that notch, too. It's indicative of a problem, but I don't think it's your water leak......
