I have a 13 foot AMF puffer 13 and want to use a trolling motor instead of an outboard. Tides/currents/distance are minimal so I know it will work, I previoulsy had a 2.5 HP on a 16 foot sloop and it was overpowered. I'm curious if anyone else uses a trolling motor and if so, what brand and how much thrust is necessary. Calebelas carries a saltwater version that appears to be good quality. I want to only use one manufactured specifically for saltwater. Any input and/or experiences will be appreciated.

I think you will find the battery is going be to REALLY heavy for that size boat and it also NEEDS to strapped down someplace with cables that there is no place to hide on and open boat

I think you have a fine idea and, in fact, there is an "electric outboard" made specifically for your intended purpose. The battery is attached to the motor, so there are no worries about wiring and heavy, automotive style batteries.
