Trim

Help-----i have a 1982 star craft with a mercruiser 140 hp. I put 2 new trim lines on the problem is when i push the down button the motor comes on. The trim does seem to be sticky, when i push to bring trim up nothing no sound and no movement.

Des the trim go up when you press the trailer button? If so, it's probably the trim limit switch. If not, could be a bad solenoid or a loose connection. Try jumping the blue wire on the pump to the positive terminal on the battery. If the motor runs, you either have a bad connection somewhere, a bad solenoid or a bad limit switch/wires.

+1 with greg, my guess is trim limit switch, assuming that when you push down, the motor not only comes on, but the drive also goes down.

Thanks guys for the tips i will try these when i get home from work. However my son did have to stand on trim to get it to go down just got the boat never ownwed one so any help we would be thankful for.
