trim pump will not lower

I have a 1998 Mariah jubilee with a 5.0 mercruiser, and the other day i dropped in at the local marina and the outdrive took a long time to lower but did eventually lower, then when we were on the way back i noticed that the trim would not go down, long story short, but the trim does work in the up position, does that mean that one of the solenoids is bad, if so should i replace both of them?
Thanks
Glenn

Was the motor running when it wouldn't go down? If it was, then there is nothing wrong with the solenoid.
One problem I have found that a lot of people do that they shouldn't is when raising the drive, they bring it all the way up till the motor slows down from the excess pressure of the pump loading up because the drive is all the way up.
After raising the drive, just hit the down side a bit to make sure the EXCESS pressure is off the pump check valves.

Yes the motor was running, now the outdrive will not go down at all.

Get someone to run the switch in the down position. At the same time, go back and stand on the outdrive and bounce up and down.
Trust me, I'm not joking. It could be from the valves sticking in the pump from the problem I explained earlier.

I just got around to looking at my trim pump and found that the bracket was completely rusted out and the pump was moving around the engine compartment, possibly a ground problem????

If the motor was running, then the ground isn't your problem. Did you jump on the drive?
